I had a similar conversation with a Polish coworker last week. He said of all the countries he had lived in, America is far and away the best! However, politicians (on both sides of the isle) are walking a fine line of tearing America down to third world status.
He lived under communism in Poland, and is legitimately concerned about people like Mamdani aging any political power here.

Day by day, state by state, we are losing 
We are being overrun. I would say I’m beginning to feel alone out here, but there are so many elephants in the room! Every meme is the truth, every communist is winning elections. Why are we just sitting around waiting for the American flag to be replaced? Our side doesn’t seem to be putting up much of a fight.
Even my banker of 30+ years thinks Trump may be being blackmailed. That shot to the ear was a warning.

…and here I thought we were smarter than they are. It ain’t propaganda anymore when they are holding office. It won’t be manipulative when they start changing laws. If we ain’t fighting now, we’re never going to fight! I think we’re about running on an eighth of a tank. When it hits E, we’re dead in the water on our own soil! You know what I mean! Take heed my Brother it’s not all Gloom N Doom (close but not total). I predict (using nothing but my past experiences) This will be THE GREAT PURGE! (my words not anybody else). A long time ago in a land far far away (where even the air smelled like sh!t!), We sat around listening to a military news broadcast (great for a laugh) Those Rear Ech MF’s had no idea what we were going through so it was sort of Monty Python meets Mel Brooks with a straight face.
The situation was kinda bleak, we lost some guy’s and that really hurt but the SF’S decided to stop being so aloof and walked around our little band of Brothers, gripping shoulders, small punches to the shoulders, Pep talks when needed, I actually saw the change over in some of these guys eyes (it was beautiful). One guy got up, saluted the dude (and got one back which blew some of our socks off!) and went to his rack and tore up a letter he wrote to his Family (prolly filled with gloom n doom huh?) Garrison was BEAMING like a Proud Father I’m here to tell you.!
