So let me get this straight the man who protected his home from a home invasion has his mug shot photo posted everywhere while the 18 year old man who tried to kickdown his back door at 3 AM is getting a free pass? Let me fix this:

There is dead dude, he deserved to die for making bad decisions in life.

I don’t know friend if he ‘DESERVED TO DIE!’ for being a bloody FOOL!.
But I friggin’ TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU THE UNFAIRNESS of the (27) year old DEFENDING his Home n Hearth from somebody kicking in his door @ 03:00 !
Getting HOOKED-UP for Murder! And getting his mug splashed all over the Media while dumbass is being made the ‘VICTIM’
That dog don’t hunt.
Now we weren’t there so if Mr. Home Owner came out blazing away @ these jerks hiding in the bushes (unarmed) might be cause for investigation.

But this was no ’ Ding Dong Ditch!’ this was Ding, Ding dumbasses!’

Sketchy police report because the story does not indicate that the back door was damaged nor actually busted open by “kicking in the back door”. So why would a homeowner be arrested for home self-defense at 3AM by unlawful attempted entry as stated, “were trying to break into ( the suspect’s) home by kicking in the back door”. Was the homeowner waken up by the kicking in of the back door, got his firearm and shot towards a kicked open back door at figures in the doorway? Or, did he give chase running after figures through the kicked back door and outside then shooting at the figures outside of the home, which in that case would be why the homeowner would have been arrested. On the other hand, teenage fools play stupid games, and win stupid prizes. 911 stated a call of a break-in, kids say in their report they were playing the ding dong ditch prank, and the police don’t even report if there was forced damage/entry to the back door, and just make an arrest. Hopefully the homeowner gets a fair trial, and a thorough investigation, hopefully pictures of that back door that will collaborate with the 911 call.

Search the web for “ding dong ditch shooting” to find this sort of situation is reported around the country about once a year.

Reading available reported details of this latest event in Virginia, the story is not good for the 27 year old shooter. He shot at the dumb@$$ teens as they were running away. Police found no physical evidence of attempted entry at his back door, which was the story he told the police.

This is starting to sound as bad as the poor old white fella who shot a black yoot through his front door because the kid mistakenly chose the wrong house?
‘I was in fear for my life!’
Officer: Did the kid threaten you ?
DA (for dumbass) : well, no
Officer: did he attempt to gain entry?
DA: well, no he knocked

Officer: click, clack

The 911 caller said they were kicking in his door. But no evidence of that was in the police report, or the rest of the story.
If in fact they were kicking the door, I would agree with you. But it is equally likely that the caller just said that because he realized he screwed up.
Hopefully we will get a follow-up to this story someday, after any available evidence is presented in court to show what actually happened. The story said the kids were taking video. So maybe they have it documented.

Seems like a dumb kid rang a doorbell and another dumb kid shot him. Nothing good about this from any angle to me.
