Volunteer to help with the baseball team and then carry a bat to school every day?
Kevin McAllister was our inspiration when we came up with the plan
I would, but all sports games and practices happen on my shift
There goes my idea for coaching the rifle team.
Democratic socialistās actions just donāt make sense from the perspective of freedom and good government of, by, and for the people. Their actions and agenda do make complete sense in order to subject us to the socialist plans they have. Beyond seeing us as sheep to be fleeced 4/14, they donāt care about the public at all. Their main concern with firearm laws, is to prevent rebellion and keep us under their thumbs. They donāt even trust the troops they sent to the capitol and had them be āvettedā by the FBI (figuratively deloused).
āgun controlā is people control
We seem to be veering off topic hereā¦ please adjust your course to stay on target.
Yeah please. Iām not trying to start an āoverthrow the governmentā debate. I just want to get home in one piece at night.
Look. Under the circumstances, you did GREAT. Now figure out how to lose the fear you described, because it is just an illusion. Concern and alert = YES! Fear = never. Again I say: YOU DID TERRIFIC.
You now have real world experience with your family security plan. Nobody got hurt. WINNER!
Nowā¦after action review.
- What went right?
- What went wrong?
- Address what went wrong. Sometimes, stuff just goes wrong. BUTā¦try to eliminate that.
- Donāt forget to tell your family how proud you are of them.
- You arenāt going to change the school district, your community, etc. anytime soon. Thatās not where you focus your attention. Accept what IS. Work within and around what you canāt change.
- FYI, I have been in assaulted with guns twice when I didnāt have a gun. Once I got shot in the leg. The other time I talked and waited my way out of a hostage situation. He eventually passed out. I took the 357 mag revolver, and unlocked the door to let by police buddies waiting outside in to arrest him. Then I had a stiff drink or 3 and did some serious praying to thank God for his protection. Moral: being armed is WAY better, but you and your family can likely survive not being armed if you HAVE TO. Use what youāve got. You are NEVER out of the fight! KEEP YOUR WITS and remain calm.
Again ā congratulations! This was a huge success.
Thank you for your advice and support. Iām a Marine combat vet of Iraqi Freedom. So Iām well versed in weapons of opportunity, and counter surveillance, terrorism awareness. And I have read Gavin DeBeckerās āThe Gift of Fearā several times. So I am well aware of the difference between warranted fear (survival instinct) and unwarranted fear (paranoia).
I guess my biggest gripe is I donāt like not being prepared for every possible contingency, on top of not being able to have access to ALL my tools. I always keep a few things handy so I can at least maintain the element of surprise. It is just scary knowing that these types of people live so close to me and can strike at anytime. These five in particular were even worse. They were actually targeting a specific person but never positively identified anyone they engaged as their actual target (according to the police).
I know the problem isnāt law here. The problem is impulse, emotion, and non-guidance. I know I canāt fix those problems. I just want to make sure that Iām doing everything I can to make sure the neither my family, nor I, pay the price because somebody else didnāt do their job as parents.
Iām sorry that you went through the situations that you did. But Iām glad you survived, and am thankful you were willing to share.
WOW.the law there needs to be changed. you did the next best thing. GOD BLESS YOU BROTHER. charlie here, army retired, vietnam era 67-68ā¦
Thank you for your service.
I think that is a stupid law. As long as you have a gun safe in the car so no one can get it I think you should be able to have a gun on school grounds. I also think that if you are trained to carry the school would be safer if you had you gun in the classroom with you. The no gun zones are a sign for the armed crooks to know law abiding citizens are unarmed and can be robbed easier.
I totally agree.
It sounds to me that you and your family planned ahead and then did everything that you could legally do. Have you or your wife taken any defensive handgun shooting classes? I noticed that you served in the military, and thank you for that, but USCCAās Defense Shooting Fundamentals Level 1 & 2 classes are a good way to refine skills you have or in your wifeās case learn new skills.
In terms of your school situation, Iāve seen several good suggestions, and I would add that I carry a tactical pen and flashlight or a expandable steel baton when Iām in a gun free zone setting.
I would love for her and I to take a defensive shooting class. The problem of course, being a low income middle class family, is time and funds. I say time because work schedules conflict and there is NEVER a day where we could go together. Hell, it seems like we each have to take a vacation day just to go grocery shopping .
Anyway, for the time being itās just what I can convey to her through my training/memory, which is effectiveā¦but RUSTY at best.
Get in touch with Klint Macro at Triggerpressersunion.com. He lives in the Pittsburgh area, but teaches all over the state/country. Klint is a USCCA & NRA Instructor and Training Counselor. Heās an excellent instructor, and given your constraints, Iām sure he would work something out for you. He was one of my instructors when I took the DSF Level 1 Instructors class in 2019. Iāve been lucky enough to work with him once since then.
Given your military background you might want to consider becoming an instructor for some extra income.
Thanks for his info. I have thought about becoming an instructor myself. Of course the first question that goes through my head is āhow much is this going to cost me?ā I know it would be a great investment, and an opportunity for extra income. But also with the pandemic, and social distancing right now, I also think it might be prudent to wait until things settle down a bitā¦if they do.
I would take the DSF L1 course before deciding on the instructor path, because the instructor course is 3 days of range work and I think itās around $800.00.
There is a USCCA instructor course for Home Defense and Concealed Carry that runs about $400.00. Most instructors charge about $100.00 per student, so it wouldnāt take but a class or two to recoup your investment. In SC where I live it also meets the states requirements to teach CWP classes.
Iāll definitely look into it further.
