Crazy Day in the Park: What would you do?

If am with my kids at a public playground type park in my city, I am prohibited from CC. I don’t like it but that’s the stupid law. So I am forced to grab the kids and take cover. The guy with the gun will not stick around because…the police are just 15 minutes away…LOL!

Your only given 3 choices. None of the choices have options. So let’s explore shall we? Gun start firing. Well it’s a crowded place. Your that good of shot seriously? People will be running in and out of your target area. Who is the actual threat in the group of kids shooting? Are there more than 2 shooters? Group of kids playing basketball, how many? 6??? Was it just a drive by shooting? Did you just shoot an “innocent” as the area where the shots originated were also victims. You start pulling your pocket cannon out you may find yourself in the middle of it. The police will at a minimum confiscate your gun. They will do ballistic testing on your weapon as part of the investigation. Or did you just shoot an undercover police officer? Look blasting away without a tactical understanding of what happened is poor judgment.

Predefined answers are definitely not the end all, I’ll agree with you on that, @Michael108. In the situations we outline here, they are a launching point for further conversations.

Glad to have you here!

A question for the people who said they’d shoot.

Who?

How do you know who is the aggressor? Maybe the guy you see running was defending himself.

Exactly correct in this city, Chicago PD will love to see a defender go down here for their body count. They (Chicago PD) will take you down. They have even been known to run into runners with their patrol cars.

So you can’t act to defend an innocent person? Moronic.

In some states, a lot of the laws still are :unamused:
Missouri fixed it over the last decade or so… it can be put right. Takes a committed grass roots effort and the willingness to stay the course and fix it a bite at a time, I think.
Some places are definitely still wrong-headed abut this.

If you walk up on two people shooting at each other how do you know who’s innocent.

You have obviously consideered this one correctly. Good job in my thinking.

Depends on what the shooter is doing? If he focused on his adversary then grab the kids and seek shelter. If the shooter is shooting up everywhere and everybody, then action would be to eliminate the threat.

Welcome to the Community, @Paul19! I completely agree - if the shooter is still actively shooting and coming any where near my family, I will take action to stop the threat.

Great answer. In Illinois they frown on carrying in parks so your answer is what I’d be forced to do too.

Well Parks are ok except Cook County, Do not get caught in a Cook County Park with a gun. State parks are ok. There’s a national park far far south called Shawnee National Forest it’s beautiful and would exceed your expectations if you ever have a chance you will have a wonderful time.

Perhaps those 7% have no children so are not sensitized to the threat of exchanging fire which might expose them. Every person on the field is a potential moving piece over which one has no control. Gather the kids, put something between you and the shooter. Don’t block the shooter’s probable route of escape. Call 911 and be a good witness.

Im not involved with the incident in the basket ball court. I don’t know who is the agressor, or the defender. What matters is getting my kids out of the Line of Fire. Move them too the dressing room, or other hard cover and hold up there.

Good point, @Adam7. Unless I’ve seen exactly what happened or someone is directly threatening my family with lethal force, I’d be very cautious to engage.

Find a place of tactical advantage and protect your family.

Glad to have you here, @Adam7!
