“When the man, carrying a stolen laundry hamper, got outside the house Chris fired a warning shot. The guy took off running toward the fence in the front yard and Chris fired 12 shots at him. One bullet hit the man as he tried to jump the fence.”

To me, the kid did the right thing, I doubt he’ll be charged. But I have to ask, did he shoot the guy while he was in retreat?

Love this line:
And he had a message for the bad guy: “I hope you learned your lesson coming to this house trying to steal stuff.”

He wasn’t charged.
This happened in 2016 and was deemed justified self defense.

I lived in AL in 2016 and recognized the story, but have no idea why it has resurfaced.

Does anybody have a problem with this story?
(I don’t wish to sound like the ‘USUAL SUSPECTS’ that post here)
BUT, If you try that action TODAY, you WILL BE CHARGED AND IN JAIL!.
Shooting this addicted thief/Violent Offender on his stair? OK, COOL.
But if ‘I’ tried this? Emptying a mag at a fleeing thief ? Buh Bye donald!.

Stand your Ground?
Castle Doctrine?
FANTASTIC! Take it to the Limit !
But this was taking a real bad chance of being (17) in Spafford or Chino!
I’m glad he wasn’t charged, Lucky kid. but please don’t think (in this climate)
you will catch the same breaks NOW! (and NONE OF US ARE (16)!

Good line I agree but Please, Please, Please DON’t talk to the Legacy Media either!.
You’re NOT Dirty Harry and trying to make a name in his next flick!
You will sound blood thirsty and possibly hung by the balls!

If I remember correctly, he was not charged due to AL’s castle doctrine which includes the following for justified deadly force:

A person may use deadly physical force and is legally presumed to be justified in using deadly physical force in self-defense or in the defense of another person pursuant to section (5), if the person reasonably believes that

another person is:

(3) Committing or about to commit:
(c) Burglary in any degree;
(d) Robbery in any degree;

ok, that’s clear enough.
AL makes it better to defend Home and Hearth than New Mexico does.

Thanks Zold for the clarification.
