I’m going to go look at them again. They pretty nice to me.

Buy a stripped lower and build your own. That way, you pick, inspect and assemble all the parts rather than trust the quality control and choices a manufacturer makes for you and hope that the workers at the factory employed by the manufacturer on the production line are competent. It’s not that hard.

I built my ARs using Aero Precision lowers, Ballistic Advantage barrels (one in a Wyld barrel), and a variety of triggers, hand guards, charging handles, flash hider, stocks, etc. Finished with Ceracoat.

Where does one go to learn how to do this and get more information of all the options?

Probably thousands of instructional videos on utube.

We have one that is a scratch build by a lady specifically for my wife, she set it up perfect for R. When asked all I can say is “It’s a Noreen” that’s who made the lower all of the other parts were selected by the builder and her dad.

I agree, they were included in the ones that I was looking at a couple of months ago. My LGS/range does have them for sale on their site, which is why I thought they also had them in-store.

I went to YouTube University to educate myself on how to build an AR. That also helped with parts selection and user reviews. There are literally scores of videos available. The folks who sell AR parts (e.g., MidwayUSA) also have videos dealing with assembly of an AR. Some local gun stores also offer advice on building ARs. Then, there’s old school education – buy a book and read it.

You can buy a complete kit minus stripped receiver at this site:

You can pay them to assemble and test fire the upper for you.

I bought a PSA receiver directly from PSA for $29.99 a couple months ago. Every body should be running Black Friday sales soon.

I like the Aero Precision M4E1 receiver better because it features threaded allen screws to contain springs in place.

Beware! Building your own requires dozens (if not more) of decisions, each carrying a price. Sometimes the price is low, sometimes quite high. Proceed with caution. Saving a dollar one place can cost an extra $10-$100 someplace else. Don’t get me wrong. It’s both challenging and fun. Don’t forget the old adage: “If you don’t know where you are going you will probably get there.”

Since we have dipped our toes into build vs. buy discussion, here are a couple of previous threads regarding building:

I just looked up the ones I posted on when I was in your shoes first thinking about AR-15.

They are the ones I used to make my custom “Go To Hell” rifle and I wound up using them to set it up with upgraded accessories. I don’t regret a single penny I spent on it. It’s a tack driver for anything inside of 500ish yards. Never had a single hiccup with it. Other than cleaning, semi annual check up, and upgrading accessories as technology has brought the prices down. Not 1 problem.

Ok. I think I have it down to 3 potentials. Sig M400, IWI Zion or Springfield st Victor. Any thoughts? I love sig products bit the IWI Zion was very cool. All about the same price range. Would love any thoughts. All that I looked at has 16 inch barrels

I have the Zion 15 pistol AR 12.5” barrel . As far as I know, it is not a SBR. The finish on it wasn’t that great until I filed down some sharp places. Other than that, I love it.

Went with the IWI Zion 15. Sig sauer Romeo 5 to be installed (have a buddy that is loaning me his old one). For the group, what accessories (other than extra mags) would be mandatory to get at first? Which ones go on the “when you can” category? Any suggestions appreciated. Brands that have worked for you welcome as well.

How are you liking this setup and the Romeo 5. I was thinking of buying the exact the same things. Adding flip-up sights and a either a suppressor or a delfector for indoors. Gets kinda long if you add a suppressor, which I why I was thinking of a bullpup, but they are double the price.

You’re not wrong about the price though….. :money_bag::money_bag::money_bag:

Looks good. With the suppresor and sights, about $4000 all in sound about right?
