Man you really making me want to get the Hi Point out at the range tomorrow lol It hasn’t been shot for a while now since I mostly use the J Frame or the G19.
It’s pretty amazing what you can do on a budget that’s for sure! I mean honestly it’s the whole “well placed shot thing.” If you can shoot the center out of a target with something most people would laugh it then it’s obviously not something worth laughing at that’s for sure!
Many years here also, Back before my days of CCW when my kids were in babyseats. The HH6 and I were at a local Kroger had just started load groceries in our mini van. Guy walks up to me and said he needed some diapers. That statement was BS. We had an S&W 357 in console. Hatch still open I told the HH6 that he and I were about to tangle and that if he got the best of me shoot him!. At that moment he reconsidered his postion. We were about to have some serious military level hand to hand I was 30+ years younger
My Girl friend went to a concert in Madison Sq. Garden (Manhattan, NYC in 1977)
She was stabbed to death on the LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) platform.
I was training to be a SEAL/Delta (whoever chose me first)
That got me into Protection (the hard way)
I joined Armored that week …
Bullies led to karate… then other forms, none of which were religiously followed, just studied enough to understand the basics.
The few times I had to use those skills outside the sparring arena I walked away uninjured,… the other guy not so lucky.
I’ve been into shooting sports (archery and precision air rifles) since I was maybe 7?
So as an adult starting a family (my first son had just been born) I bought my first firearm.
New addiction acquired!!
Going on 22 years later, I’m not in hand to hand fighting shape anymore, my kids are grown, and their mom is no longer my concern. (Divorced)
After the Boulder Colorado Kings Soopers shooting, I decided I would actually get my CCW and be able to keep a gun on my person at all times I’m legally allowed to!
Ferguson, Missouri riots 2014. Obama sent then Attorney General Eric Holder who promptly race baited the crowd of “protesters” into even more “peaceful protesting”. Police during this time were given the order to stand down while the burning and looting continued.
Sounds familiar huh? See 2020 “peaceful protests”. Not likely to change IMHO.
I have been looking at the Gen 3 also for that same reason. I have a red dot on a QD mount which is normally stowed on the lower rail. I took the OE sights off long ago and mounted a set of flip up offset sights for immediate use when I deploy the weapon and when I get a few seconds behind cover, I transition the red dot to the upper rail. I haven’t had any issues with the accuracy from switching back and forth.
I have looked at the SU16, and you are correct: Not overly pretty, but functional. I like the fact it has a more or less conventional stock as I am not a big fan of pistol grips on long guns. Just my preference. No reason to get into a big discussion on the issue.
A question about your SU16 though: How long and wide is it folded up? Well, maybe not width (thickness side to side) but how tall top to bottom? May be my next acquisition.
Just did a quick measurement. I have the SU16 B which is the lightest model and also happens to be CA legal at least for the moment. Folded it is about 23 3/4” long and 6 3/4” high, not including the red dot on top.
I like that aside from being that evil black color it doesn’t look overly tactical. The stock that opens into a bipod is a bit gimmicky as it is fairly flimsy when open and doesn’t make for the most stable base. Would rather have a short rail underneath or on the side that I could attach a light to.
The barrel on the B is also pencil thin at the end so it does heat up quite a bit if you fire more than a couple of magazines through it without a break. But it is hard to beat for a lightweight truck or backpack rifle. I replaced the stock pin that came with it with one that had a metal ring attached which makes folding and unfolding quicker and decreases the odds of droping the pin during the process.
I know I’ve said this before, But it’s worth repeating, I started my 2A/protector lifestyle in January of 2021. As soon as joey started using his special pen to undo Trumps accomplishments. I never believed that I needed anything more than my pocket knife. Than that voice in my head said to “sell your cloak and buy a sword”, I mean firearm. Seeing from the start what the creepy, perverted, old puppet is trying to do to our free country made me realize that the government didn’t have our wellbeing and safety in mind. I realized that I would have to be my own, and my family’s first responder. I don’t have the experience, or knowledge that a lot of our Brothers and Sisters here have, but I’m working on it. The USCCA is a great place for me to learn.
