The Great American .38 Special 2" Barrel

Does any like carrying a ,38 Special 2" for a back up ? It has been a little silent
and people do not talk about it much. Thank You !

Love my LCR .38. One of my rotation. It pocket carries well. Great trigger. Lower capacity but light and reliable, and you could make a contact shot.

Got a snub nose .38spl, its usually a gym or when I need extreme low profile carry.

I never really had an affinity for a snubby. One of the guys that worked the gun shop I used to inhabit was a no kidding for real Philly PD gun slinger during the Mob days of the 60’s and 70’s and carried a Colt Detective special. On any given day he could ring the steel gong at 100 yards with that 2" revolver. While I like revolvers for certain applications the only time I carried one was while on AD and it was a Ruger Speed 6 (or mebby Security 6 I can’t remember which) that was the only pistol allowed for concealed carry by the Chief MA. It did have a buttery smooth trigger pull and I could drive it quite well in 357 magnum and 38 SPCL.

I’ve had em and they are easy to carry, like a bit longer tube and a S&W 60 3” is my favorite “ around the farm” gun

@Dwayne The Rugers were 3 or 3.5" tubes, all U.S. Property marked and parkerized. I’d pay a lot of good money to purchase one now. On the note of “farm guns” I picked up a GP-100 3" from a farm equipment operator a few years back, the grips were mauled but the steel was new, with a new set of grips it is now my favorite “tool box” gun. He bought it new and wore it after getting attacked by feral dogs. It stayed in the holster for 7 or 8 years and came with the box of ammo he bought with it, no rounds expended.

I trust my Ruger SP101, Galco concealable holster and Speer’s Gold Dot, Short Barrel, Personal Protection, 38 Special +P 135 Grain Hollow Points. And maybe a 5 Star speed loader or two.

We have 2. A Taurus 5 shot and a RIA 6 shot. The Taurus sits on Nancy’s nite stand and the RIA is my couch gun.
I carry the Taurus at times as a coat pocket gun as a backup. I have holsters and 2 speed loaders for both.

:+1:. I used to carry a little NAA .22 Mag. First round snake shot and then 4 hollow points. Thought it was great for around the place, then one day while walking my old Lab we went around the corner on a trail we’d walked everyday for years, and there in front of us was a very large, aggressive and obviously Rabid coyote:flushed:. I grabbed the old dog by the collar and backed away ASAP while holding my “toy” gun. I most definitely didn’t want to get up personal and close to Wiley, and the NAA was definitely a belly button range piece. Right then I’d have gladly given $1000 just to have my old Ruger SBH .44 WITH me! Got home, grabbed a rifle and went back and dealt with the Coyote. Since then, I’ve always carried a serious caliber weapon, wherever and whenever:blush:. Here at home it’s either a 9mm in winter or my model 60 in warm weather with a snake shot followed by 4 .357 Mags!

@Dwayne I get the distinct Impression you have snakes in your neck of the woods.

I am very please to read these stories. I use a 158 grain, .38 caliber round that is great to use in
practice or conceal or carry. Your wonderful .357 magnum 158 grain works too. Shooting things like
snakes and protecting you at close range it work well. It has a great worth to complete its best.

Nice thing about the .357 magnums, you can use a .38 caliber round for practice. Thank you for your
input, it is important. I have a Taurus 85, (5) .38 Special for back up and the Taurus Tracker (7) ( 4") Barrel .357 Magnum for help. Thanks everyone.

I had a Taurus 5 shot… hated shooting that thing. Always hurt and never felt like I had a secure grip on it, even with a grip sleeve.

I recently got the Charter Arms Undercover in a lovely Shamrock green .38spcl … it’s not bad, I don’t hate it. I got it to have a revolver for teaching as I don’t carry a revolver, but I might come to like it as revolvers go.

Nancy likes hers, we usually use the K5 targets and for some reason she shoots out the groin area on the bad guy. :open_mouth: This always makes me nervous, I just hope she is thinking of her X when she does that. For some reason that makes me be nicer to her. LOL

Um, yup. The Copperhead is pretty common (though I’ve weeded out a few:smirk:). Did I mention I hate snakes?

A Copperhead is not and never will be a laid back, well manor snake. I do not blame you.
A good 12 gauge shotgun with 00 Buck shot, # 2 or 4 steal shot will help. I have shot all of
those and on 15 yards and they work well. Please stay safe and thank you.
