The Days of Wine and Roses

It’s always the damn TV that gets us in trouble huh?. I have those little colorful ‘Price dots’ labels over my Laptop camera and on my Phone (JIC). What in the world do I need a ‘Smart’ fridge for (connected to my phone? That’s retarded!) But now as ‘Robbie’ the Vacuum roams around the Living room I find myself keeping quiet more (a physical impossibility I’m here to tell ya!

And Yes, I get he heard the music in his head (I did also when I played the bass). Unfortunately the music often gets drowned out by ALL the other voices up there also (But hey, I’m never lonely! so there;s that!):upside_down_face:

Look at it this way, you can have all the conversations in your head you like, and no “smart” appliance can hear it and blow you in!! :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:

Star Trek predicted this AI deepfake :ox::poop: 30 plus years ago, several episodes in all the series touch on it in one way or another.

I lost faith in the news a long time ago, but I don’t think the internet had existed for long before I started seeing messages about hot women in my area that wanted to meet up!

And that was when I lost all trust in the internet.

You mean… never mind.

I first came across AI in 1986. It ran on stat of the art Intel 386 computers. It was designed to generate maintenance work orders for an airplane after it flew based on events recorded by on-flight computers. I was called in to analyze why it was generating so many work orders where the problems could not be duplicated.

A good crew chief would meet plane when it landed and ask the crew if they had any issues. Then he would generate his own work orders and fix the problems before his shift ended. The next shift would get the AI generated work orders and not be able to find the problems the AI reported.

If you haven’t programmed with Hollerith Cards or booted a computer with 9 Track tape, you are just a young whipper snapper!

In plain English, please, or young whipper snappers would think you’re bilingual.

I’m still an old phart, having booted from a 5.25” floppy.

I have no idea I remember him bringing home little strips of paper or cardboard. and then it turned into a 3 x 7 or so card and then it would be long sheets of paper, stuck together and folded back-and-forth with green and white lines with computer language on them. The cords had little rectangular holes punched in them.

Just asking? Is this really a topic for USCCA or is this an open forum? Thank you

Yes.

It’s basically an open forum, in so much that topics can range all over the place!

For instance Threads like ; Pet Pics - #1135 by BeanCounter

This thread is about AI generated misinformation, which does directly impact the firearm community. Wether it’s false reporting on events abroad, or something intentionally aimed at spreading fear amongst gun grabbers.
