This is a subject I’ve just touched on - they’re non-lethal, but still designed to produce RBIs (“Really Bad Injuries”) - that you might consider as inexpensive additions to your home arsenal, or for vehicle-carry. TWO companies that make them are UNITED CUTLERY and COLD STEEL. The SJAMBOK - pronounced SHAM-bok - is a long, flexible whip that’s swung like a rod or stick - instead of a rolling “crack”. it’s usually made from 4”-thick, rolled hippo-hide, and used in Africa to drive cattle, kill snakes, etc. The South African police found it effective to break up the mass riots that happened back then. UNITED offers an all-braided-LEATHER version of it. COLD STEEL has offered three generations of the sjambok - the all-leather original, the police version, and now a braided-plastic version in two lengths.
