I would not go so far as to say that I would only use the same ammunition used by your local police department @Craig6 , although it is not a bad choice. I would stick with the nationally recognized companies like Federal, Hornady, Speer, Winchester, Remington, …
Thank you Mike, that was the answer I was looking for, I respect the suggestion made by the USCCA and will abide by that.
I use only approved loads, but I understeand how a small detail can be blown out of proportion. Gun owners donot need any more problems. I guess I am a bit of an open mouth type of guy, if I see a wrong, I will say something. In view of the fact that I may loose a case of self defense just because I think I have a right to reload ammo. When faced with using $1.00+ per round of SD ammon or handloaded ammo, the commerical round wins.
Thanks, again for all of the responses.
Larry
You are welcome @larry84. I have a friend that reloads and has a stockpile of almost every round you can imagine. Funny thing is that most of what he reloads is on a 4 stage press and, once set, it just runs. He will look at calibrations every few hundred rounds.
When he loads his precision rounds, he is in there like a mad scientist weighing and reweighing with different types of scales so the variance is less than nominal. So much so that he could probably knock a flea off a flies a$$ at 500 years.
I truly appreciate the science of reloading. My son just started and had a few squibs when i was with him the first time he was shooting his reloads. It appears there might have been an issue with powder dispensing with each round on the press. He learning and getting better. Luckily, he caught the squibs and did not send another round behind them.
Also, as you can tell form this thread, the folks on this forum are very passionate about a lot of things having to do with 2A and firearms. (Just don’t mention Glock v, Sig. That always stirs up a lot of emotions!)
@MikeBKY Had I known you were in my Gun Barn watching me reload we could have had a scotch!
Cheers,
Craig6
@MikeBKY,
Do you think it’s smarter to use ammo used by local PD, or use ammo approved by FBI as “defensive ammunition” which meets all FBI standards?
I asking, because my local Agencies use Hornady Critical Duty, which according to FBI, can over penetrate in same cases (so it can go over 18").
There is a lot of different defensive ammunition which meets exact FBI standards, and it’s not used by local PD.
@MikeBKY
Have you considered Ammo Voyeurs Anonymous?
I doubt you will lust after precision ammo any less, but it might help deal with the urges.
