In 2026, I decided to try carrying a revolver as my everyday carry. The Smith & Wesson 386 Night Guard Lipsey’s Edition was announced in January 2026, and three features immediately stood out to me: its 24.4-ounce weight, .357 Magnum chambering, and seven-round capacity. I bought mine on March 4 for $1,200, but I had to send it back for repair twice. The first return was for forcing cone and timing issues. The second was after the blast shield blew off. After inspecting it, Smith & Wesson determined that the revolver needed a new frame. I paid the transfer fee at my local FFL, but Smith & Wesson reimbursed me for that cost.
I have fired 1,805 rounds through it using a mix of .357 Magnum and .38 Special. Except for the three total weeks it spent at Smith & Wesson, I have carried it every day. I have fully switched to carrying a revolver as my EDC because it is easy to conceal and holds seven rounds of .357 Magnum. I never expected to enjoy shooting a revolver this much; I used to think revolvers were outdated technology, but I was wrong. ----Smith & Wesson has outstanding customer service for firearm owners.
