I restored the post. It was Discourse AI for some reason.
Iāve told the story before. Sitting in my condo late one night, the door swings open, not locked my bad, and in strolls a total stranger. I put my hand on my tool jump up and there stand the perp, an elderly lady looking a bit confused. I walked over to her and asked, are you looking for the 3N, she smiled, I walked her to the other side and delivered her to her nervous waiting daughterā¦
I think what is important here is we have guns to save lives by stopping threats. Not to kill people. It is sometimes what one has to do to save lives.
But are you kidding, Don?
One thing to add. I still pay for a land line phone (through my internet provider). It has one purpose only, and that is for a true emergency. A phone sits on my nightstand, ringer off.
If an intruder is in the house, and I need 911, I will reach for that landline phone first. I would have to do nothing more than dial 911 and lay the phone down and police would know where the emergency is. Cell phones donāt always give precise location information, especially if location services for that phone are off, but the landline number is tied to an address. Itās also easier in a rush to punch three hard buttons (my phone has back-lit buttons) than swipe a cell phone on, open the phone app, and touch the screen in the right places and hit send. My wife will aldo be calling 911 from her cell phone, but the landline phone will be picking up for police whatās going on, whether sheās on her cell phone or not.
And yes, my cell phone does have a little emergency button on the lock screen, but I doubt Iād remember to find that if Iām worrying more about the bad guys in the house. KISS principle.
As far as I know every State has either a āstand your groundā or a āduty to retreatā law. If you are locked in a room with no safe exit then you have retreated about as much as possible (check with a lawyer in your State). If your State is āstand your groundā you should be golden.
You might want to reconsider the occupancy layout. If not possible then look into further hardening the main floor and/or adding āemergencyā egresses. Once your plan is in place practice, practice and practice.
YOU HAD YOUR HAND ON YOUR TOOL? OH MY!
WPHEW!
Honestly Brother? I have a pk. of (6) (one way zippers)
DUDE??? It was my Weapon not my Gun⦠Shheeesh ![]()
'āThis is my rifle, this is my gunā----I get that! ![]()

Either way, it was a logical defensive reaction. ![]()
FWIW, there are 4 items on my nightstand, a flashlight, a pistol with a weapon mounted light, my cell phone, and my car keys. The flashlight and pistol are self explanatory. The car keys are to set off the car alarm in the driveway to create diversion and help LEO identify my house after the 911 call. The phone is set to open up to the keypad set to call 911 by pressing and holding 9.
Not on my nightstand is a 300 Blackout loaded with subsonic ammo.
Thatās when I go to bed. Otherwise, it is basically EDC pistol during awake hours.
The 4 legged burglar alarm is the only alarm I use. She is the best alarm Iāve ever had.
Edit: When we had children/teenagers at home they knew it was better to identify themselves if they slipped in late and face any discipline than to put Dad and 4 legged alarm on alert ![]()
Great idea on the car alarm. I like that. ![]()
ME TOO BROTHERS! ADOPTING THAT! ![]()
With my security system the lights flash on the outside of the house with a hit of a buttonā¦
