A law requiring a person to swear in using a bible would be an affront the First Amendment of the Constitution. A person can use the Bible, the Koran or even a Harry Potter novel. In reality, most jurisdictions now use only “Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole and nothing but the truth” for testimonial evidence and that would be perfectly legal as long as the person who is doing the swearing in (not the person being sworn in, is legally able to swear them in) like judges, notary publics, attorneys, elected officials …

So you know, Trump didn’t swear in on the bible either. Melania held the bible, but trump did not put his hand on it. Does it matter? No. Of course not. It’s just an old custom that people swear in on a religious book, but it’s not required. As if when the person breaks their oath, not only do they break their oath they also go to hell will provide some added incentive to keep your oath? Silly.

Got two notifications from the mods In reference to this thread.
Both were that GC had edited his posts to align with community guidelines.
I did have to re-flag one of his posts because while he changed it, it still falls outside of the forum guidelines.
