You know that strong smell which some liquid cleansers like Hoppes brand leaves in a room? Silly me, I spilled some on the counter at home by accident. To clean it, I used distilled white vinegar in full concentration strength. I must say, it completely took the entire odor of Hoppes away.
@Todd30 sounds like itâs a AR, whatâs the barrel length and twist rate ?

Oh yeah⊠my basement bar is full of amazing stuffâŠ

But it doesnât have anything to do with cleaning methods.
I donât touch firearms and alcohol the same time
I always do everything the way that works the best.
10.5 Inch barrel
1:8 right hand rotation (Not Left) 5 grooves
Ever thought of Simple Green?
An 110 year old China man told me that the secret to his health was drinking tea every day, Hot tea!
Iâve never used Simple Green. Dawn works for me perfectly, so Iâm using this one.
I got ahold of some simple green and use it in my sonic cleaner. No residue left behind either.
That might be one of few good things learned from them⊠
But to be honest, as I mentioned, I learned this cleaning from Mickey Schuch, great firearm Instructor from IL !
My Grandmother who lived to be 95, had 9 kids, outlived 3 husbands, survived the Depression and WW2 era
economies in the North Woods of WI, chased by Wolves on horseback and reportedly shot a drunken man who was trying to break into her cabin at night with her 3 daughters, one my mother, with a .38 revolver left to her by one of her deceased husbands said the same thing. She drank 6 cups of Green Tea with raw honey every day until she passed away. They donât make women like that anymore. The stories she could tell. RIP Gram, you are missed.
@Craig6 Iâm still learning. Can you tell me how many Degrees of angle does your scope mount have. What scope are you using. How big is your target ?

@Blacky I have a 25 MOA mount on the gun and a USO 3.2 x 17 T-PAL sitting on top with an MDMOA reticle which is actually IPHY (Inch Per Hundred Yards). I have 40 IPHY in the reticle that I use to hold. I generally use the 40 IPHY mark and dial on the remainder at 1 mile. The target is 18" x 24" AR 500 steel.

@Craig6 >> wow that sounds like a blast. My best was woodchucks out to ± 500
Yards with a 7 mil mag. That was when farmers would beg us to kill chucks, and we did, it was slaughter. I had some very good Private land to hunt nearby but itâs no more. Iâm am very close to a nice gun club and I go almost everyday. The nearest 300 yard range itâs about a good hour and a half away and itâs just not worth it to me. Iâm not a tree hugger but I feel differently about killing defenseless animals now with the exception for food, I do have a sweet tooth for Whitetail deer. Thanks for shearing that info.

@Blacky I hear you on the slaughter thing, I did what was called a DNR Cull on deer (I donât think they have them any more) and the end of the day turned my stomach. I think everybody killed in excess of 20 deer that day. I felt a little better that all of them went to Hunters for the Hungry or similar. At the end of the day we all felt âdirtyâ. I have farm access just south of the VA/NC line that nets me a mile but it takes a minute to get there. On my farm the best I can get is 700 yards due to topography but I can shoot the he!! out of pistol or carbine at either. On my farm there is open season year round for coyotes and wood chucks because of the damage they do. My best was a 640 yard head shot. Iâd post a pic but its a little graphic as I stuck a twig through the holes, very little blood. I think I hit him with a 210gr Berger. When I need to decompress or really need mental floss I set up the distance steel and get immersed in the science of getting that round on target waaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy out there. Long range is my cathartic.

@Craig6 the best weekend hunt was 75 chucks. My shoulder would swell up and I would get a fever. One small bucket of KFC would last for two days cause there was never enough time to finish one piece. I also remember shooting them off snow banks in the Beginning of the season. Add a lot of drinking and hooting and hollering at night was a good days fun.
PS: hang overs and a 7mm mag. donât mix so much. Slow learner, go out and do the same dam thing the next night again.

@Blacky you wasnât hugginâ that gun enough.
I shot a 416 Chey Tac for an entire weekend on a DARPA trial with similar hootinâ and hollerinâ. The only thing I kept telling myself was âPull it in tight, it wonât hurt so badâ. When the light flashes and wooziness wore off after a shot I knew I could do it again. The only bonus was that I was so tired I might as well have been 185lbs of cement bags, I hit everything.
Cheers,
Craig6
I havenât been on here in a while. Why is this still going? lmao.
Topicâs are never ending and we have a lot new people.
And a new cleaning products are hitting market all the time
