Get home bag/ emergency bag

Cool. I hear you S_R.

Yeah, U tube sure has lots of repetitive on the topic. So when I hear of something new, different, or “micro” (more portable) version - it catches my ear.

Even recycling things into survival items for fun. A family member used to live in Montana; I made him a home made fire starting kit and mailed it to him - they got a lot of excitement and fun from it.

At the end of my kayak fiasco, once I got to my vehicle - luckily I had at the vehicle - water, food, first - aid, and it felt like a rescue. I was shook up for a few days post.

So I went back to my kayak incident again but to hike the trail instead of on the water, partly to conquer it that way - because the water-way had kicked my butt.

Once, our lantern almost went out while in the woods - bit of a scare; Another time - in the woods named Racoon Forest - I didn’t plan to be out that late when it got so dark - the trail was slowly not becoming visible - so I jogged it back to the car just before completely dark.

Vowing, to be prepared out there from now on.

@deactivated Good story. I have bought a lot of “junk” over the years and learned that small and things with multiple uses is better. There is absolutely no way I could haul a full backpack or “tactical pack” as sold by so many. At this point in my life, I am bugging in unless absolutely necessary to leave.

IMO, necessities are protection, shelter, water or bottle w/filter, a light and fire source, maybe food. A lot of the stuff sold on the internet at these survival websites are unnecessary and some is junk.

As for medical stuff don’t worry about the 8 sizes of band aids, scissors, tweezers and such. If you get anything for medical get a large bandana, a CAT tourniquet (not a knock-off from Amazon) and chest seal and learn how to use them if you don’t already. Get several of each.

A lightweight backpack and gallon zip lock bags work great. Better and less weight than an expensive pack for everything IMO.

Maybe some of the military guys on here can chime in on what is really needed for an emergency day hike or overnight stay in the woods and medical stuff if something happens without carrying the monstrous ruck sacks they carry. I would trust their judgement more than “survivaltubers”.

I will say that I am no expert by any means and have never had to run for my life but I have done a lot of research. Not that research will save me but hey, gotta start somewhere.

@deactivated I will add that I believe there will be more terrorist attacks in our country. When? Where? Who knows but we just took out an important infrastructure in Iran today and some other stuff I believe. Still catching up on the news. They aren’t gonna let that go. And past reports are there could be up to 18,000 terrorists in this country already.

Those middle eastern folks have been preparing for this for decades and are in it for the long haul. I don’t think Aunt Jane at 123 Peach St. in Anytown, USA stands a chance unfortunately.

I fear how the unprepared in our country will react in my area more than terrorists though…unless they start dropping :collision: :collision: :collision:

I have read that Iran is using Tiktoc to flood misinformation and scare people. I knew this to be fact after my daughter called me the other day asking if she needed to buy this and that because she saw it on Tiktoc. She was terrified. Had to calm her down and remind her that I have her covered as best as I can. I bought her a pistol and backpack with some things in it years ago. She rolled her eyes at me. She is not rolling them now.

Interesting experiences.

Soon after 9-11-2001, I was writing a power point presentation for my field/occupation, was taking photos of the outside of a large major grocery chain, when the employees and police stopped me, I explained to the officer - he let me go. I’m red blooded American, but I don’t always look the part, LOL.

Sure it sounds simple; today someone by me - threw away a sports gym bag. I washed it in the laundry machine, very old but very good quality, will re-use. As for the zip lock bags - they repel moisture better than expensive bags and are see thru; throwing a few in there - I’ll make use of it. LOL.
