I prefer one clearly, but do both, because competitions often require doing things differently than you would like or prefer, which is generally a good thing)

Many years ago when I was running through obstacle courses shooting competitions I did reload after reload and some stages the required number reloads was almost silly but that was the requirement. And I real life situation my brain is automatically going to go to the simplest least complicated technique to get the job done.

In my mind, for the vast majority of semi auto malfunctions, the simplest least complicated technique is an immediate action aka phase I drill…tap rack reassess…no spare mag needed

I agree with you for the most part. I’ve had rounds not go all the way into battery or even just a simple tap at the rear of the slide solves the issue. Tack rack continue. If must drop the mag rerack continue. Of course better hope the hell you have some cover no matter what the malfunction is!
