Move and Shoot or Shoot and then Move?

Get it while you can!

I understand what you’re getting at as I’m exactly the same age and the fact you’re up doing anything with a gun puts you far ahead of most people.

Most CCW people think if they have a gun they’re good to go and most of us on this page know that simply isn’t true. By practicing and drilling it helps you to understand exactly what your abilities are and what you should be getting involved in and what you should be leaving to others.

Keep drilling and stay safe

You too. It’s good stuff, all the disciplines. Physical and mental therapy. God knows I require both, my wife knows as well

Depends on if you’re proactive or reactive.
If the perp has the drop on you there’s no shame in taking cover and returning fire.
There’s no shame in returning fire while taking cover
unless there is no cover to take, then it’s Geronimo time.
My 2 centavos anyway

Agreed! It’s foolish to draw on a drawn gun unless the perp is shooting then all bets are off.

Consider if you were suddenly immersed in an active shooter situation and the shooter was firing into a crowd. While he/she is occupied, then a proactive reactionwould entail an immediate response while the active shooter is occupied, would it not?
What bugs me about the Uvalde school massacre was the officers waiting in the hallway.
Waiting for what?
They can hear the shooter firing on the children.
What were they waiting for? Instructions? Orders?
If a perp started firing on officers, would they wait for instructions before returning fire?

Sorry about the rant. It’s a sore subject.

Exactly! This one’s close to home and Lodi PD did the City proud!

Officers moved toward the sound of gunfire and encountered the armed suspect.

The military taught me shooting and moving as a team. In the jungle of Vietnam, it was almost impossible. The exception was a Hill that had been pretty much devastated by artillery and aircraft fire. Civilian self defense is different. Especially if returning fire. Then move. You must return fire immediately! Stopping the threat is paramount.

It needs to be a lesson to people that just because police show up it doesn’t mean the killing and injuring has stopped.

The police waited outside at the Pulse nightclub in Florida for almost 3 hours as the perpetrator called 911 and informed them that he had bombs in cars in the parking lot and in the nightclub itself. If the police attempted to make entry he was going to detonate the bombs. It turned out not to be true.

From the research I’ve been able to do over the years, I think most of the kids at Uvalde were already shot by the time the police got but not forcing entry right away with a huge mistake on their part. From my understanding the border patrol entry team was shocked to see kids when they entered the room as they assumed it was just a barricaded shooter and could not understand why police had not already forced the issue.

They didn’t go into the building at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in Florida.

And the one that started with this all in 1999, the police waited outside for SWAT to show up for Columbine. It was almost 2 hours before police located the two shooters who had decided to off themselves. Both shooters were found to have several hundred rounds of ammunition remaining with them but had put on a self imposed end time or else the death numbers would’ve been higher

You see this over and over again from law-enforcement. It’s just one more reminder of how it is important to be your own first responder. You must be an active participant in your own rescue. Help maybe on the way but rarely doesn’t arrive in time to be of benefit

something to add is to take a few shots from the ‘’ prone position’’ incase you do fall

its a totally ‘‘out of sorts’’ position and you will be shook from the impact of hitting the ground

as for the cougar you will have to chew your arm off if she is sleeping on it so not to wake her

Move off the X it may buy you an extra 11/2 second

and that my friends could make the difference in a life or death situation. But if all possible completely remove yourself from the situation

I think 5.5 sec is already equal to “completely remove yourself from the situation” :joy:

This is pure TRUTH @MICHAEL_LEE1 (especially if you are shaky on your pins, rock a cane or Wheelchair etc. I’ve said it before I’m a damn TURTLE if I go over on my shell! For that reason I sport a Prayer Mat in all my cars for when I shoot on the Mesa. Besides protecting my body from anything remotely crawly, the pattern in the rugs make the Scorpions dizzy! :face_with_spiral_eyes:

This helped me identify a weakness in my training. My first few rounds on my back were all over the place (a different perspective when prone). STOP THE THREAT----then we can concern ourselves getting me back up on my feet!
