Curious about when you choose to be active amongst the general population let’s say.
My wife and I live in a rural town and just locally we could be out at any time of day. Now granted we are of “advanced age” and choose times earlier in the normally waking day.
If we choose to go to a “big city” there are several with the usual distractions of big cities within say a 1 hour drive. And as we prefer to eat earlier in the day for the last meal of the day we prefer to have said meal around 2-3 in the afternoon.
Being a middish day meal this affords us the opportunity to partake in distractions of other “big city” offerings. A major part of this is timing. The lunch crowd is leaving, the dinner crowd has not arrived. Attractions are less populated especially weekdays. Least likely to end up in other people’s drama (except in one case).
HOWEVER at our and especially my advanced age and since I am the primary navigator, there is a darkness curfew. I am confident in my abilities to drive at night but not in others. This is my phobia and maybe mine alone but my rule is home by dark.
Now we all know why we are here. We are defenders. That being said our schedule for outside the home is based on convenience, availability and safety.
I do, or try to do, my public interactions as early in the day as possible. There’s really only one good reason for this, insomnia. My sleep schedule is generally between midnight and 04:00. This means that after 14:00, or so, my energy for the day has been fully depleted.
I can still go out after that, and occasionally do, if there’s a specific need or desire to do so, but it’s not my preference.
Why do you want to know huh?, Who’s paying you to get the dirty details?
Life has taken an odd turn for me in a job change that gets me out of the ‘City different’ an odd turn of phrase that makes zero sense to me (but it sure is different now–The unhoused rule the streets after dark and it was only a matter of time before an ‘incident’ occurred in /around my old workplace. They are no where near my house as we live in the semi-sticks. No street lights, Shrinking Sherriff’s dept, but we have indoor plumbing so that’s a thing with winter coming!
So now I’ve broken every Don’ts I set for myself the last (5) years
I now drive @ night (a lot) , long distances (a lot) and visit Arizona and Texas fairly regularly. I Don’t see any sites, visit amazing attractions just ‘BNSF’ RAILYARDS! (But I get to dodge Trains and that is worth the price of admission for me! .I was becoming an Armed RECLUSE! and I didn’t like it. I don’t have to LOVE everybody but We need to be Social sometimes. Dodging 8 point Bucks and other 4 legged creatures (and occasional (2) legged ones keeps the Road trips interesting.
My Sister and I use to go out to eat regular but the hot spots have degraded the last few years and it’s Craft show Food Trucks that are now ‘the dining experience’ for us. On days off like today we’ll roll the sidewalk up before dark, Get the mail bring in the Flags, become ‘Gray house!’ After I feed the Gator’s you’d never know they were there! (an occasional SPLASH! ‘Snap, Snap, Snap!’ tells me I just saved some bread in feeding the little buggers tomorrow ‘Have you seen Juan?’ ‘Yo Quero Croc-a-gators?’
I feel life is about to get interesting so when not working we’re pretty darn boring Senor Citizens and stay close to the Casa. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZz!
OH! Serious EDIT! The job I left was a Kill Zone ..I mean Gun Free Zone. So many ‘Agency’ types milling about
I was stopped numerous times by overzealous ‘Badges’…It was only a matter of time before I may have gotten caught carrying a New Pocket pistol (I don’t go anywhere unarmed now) My Road Job I am LEGALLY ARMED ! so BONUS! (and more $$$$$!)
I have a serious problem with going out to eat. The cost of going out to try food that I can do better at home sucks. I have done it, and I usually hear from my wife, you could have made that so much better. So, I usually look at places on-line and look at their menu and if I like the idea, I make it at home.
I will frequent farmers markets, various markets or stores. I will then stop by my gun stores and see what they have laying around and just keep in touch with them. I feel as though to create a good relationship with the market employees and businesses will only help you be more in contact with them to get inside information and even some good benefits.
I don’t get out much. When I do I try to make the most of it.. I love people and try to make love all day long. Situational awareness is key for me. If something is not right I do something about it. I try to use compassion. I am not trying to be a tough guy unless the situation calls for it. Life ain’t nothin’ but a funny, funny riddle
Thank God I’m a country boy. John Denver
I live in the country and my wife and I do what ever we want when we want. We enjoy people and have fun where ever we go my wife says I never met a stranger.
Besides the gym 5:00-7:00 5-6 days a week I live a very random life. Home some days, out others. Go shopping some weeks, have it delivered others. Go shoot, trap some days, long guns other, EDC reps a couple of times a week… Eat out, usually at random places on out of the house days….
Sounds like you’re in a rut brother. Gotta break that. Take a trip, do something new or that you’ve always wanted to do but never have. Take a walk in nature, something to change your scenery.
Yes, and I just came back from the free state of Texas (first visit). I try to have a trip once every three months.
I’m the “happy Monday” guy in the workplace, I love my job but riding my motorcycle to work on a daily basis, weather permitting, makes my mood even better.
