@Will_B : 700 YO? Well done, Sir!
Caution, Meaningless Factoid ahead: Tangentially, I believe that they have recently found an intact Viking steel sword from a bog in Denmark. Analysis leads them to believe that it is of ‘Damascus’ steel (from Indian Wootz, I believe.) dated to around 900 AD. I don’t recall how they could tell the date of the sword. Maybe with some wood with the sword?
If true, heck of an ancient trade route…India to Denmark via Syria?
My blade is unknown, however its construction style, and the scabbard that came with it are consistent with an ancient cache of weapons found in the desert…. Most of which were in excellent condition!
However, because they found a few thousand of these swords stacked in the cache it’s basically considered worthless.
Whether or not it’s WOOTZ steel or Damascus steel is kinda irrelevant, it’s roughly 6-750 years old by it’s design and construction.
Still in excellent shape for a foot soldiers sword.
And I swung it at a human skull (analog from ballistic dummy labs) and it not only held up to my crappy swing, it would’ve killed whoever I hit in a single stroke! (See pics above)
