Will it Bend?

My mother has one of my dads Mod 700 .270’s stored under a bed laying on it’s side. It’s probably been there for 10 years or more. So my question is, can/will the barrel fatigue and bend? It’s just hanging out there in space, no support. I’m trying to get it from her but so far she’s good with having it chained to the floor under a bed in a spare guest room.

Haven’t yet heard of it. I’ve purchased milsurps that sat on their side in a crate supported at a couple spots for decades and it wasn’t even a consideration anybody brought up. Seems like it’s not an issue I guess

Can it? Yes.

In your great, great grandchildren’s lifetime? No.

Gravity sux and it always wins.

I’ve heard glass is a super cooled liquid and after 100+ years window panes can be thicker at the bottom.

Ya, don’t imagine there is much lingering humidity in Meza. :joy:

Just rotate it every 10 to 20 years, kinda like an old bottle of wine… :grinning:

Hey, I never thought of that. I have the one he did all of his research with, the one in Az is his utility, hunting, plinking version.

I wouldn’t worry about it.
It would be cool to have your dad’s rifle.
