Who's price gouging

So I’ve been watching some of the regular places I shop. So figured let’s start a post on who’s taking advantage of fellow gun owners.

The biggest one I’ve noticed is CHEAPER THAN DIRT. They have multiple items way over priced but the worst I saw was 1,000 rounds of Winchester 55 grn for over 700 dollars.

From what I have seen online, the question is who is not gouging?

Bass Pro Shop. They still have 9mm ammo starting at $8.99 per box of 50rd.
Last weekend they were out of the cheapest one, but plenty available for $9.99.

Too often with Bass Pro Shop, I will see an advertised deal, show up at the store and find they are “out.”

Thanks. I just ordered some.

Advertised deals have never worked… Magically every “deal” is out of stock…
I’ve been visiting Bass Pro recently quite often and always found good deal there.

Not long after I got into this sport, I saw what people were doing with pricing and avoided shopping at those places and have stuck with that. One of them was Brownells, which put me on an ammo waiting list then took me off because it was too much work for them to maintain. They’ll never see $1 from me.

You may want to think about banning Cheaper Than Dirt after you see this…

Saw this last night and can only think that if they’re passing along distributor price increases, they’re idiots for buying at that price; if CTD is setting the price, they’re just outright thieves! Either way, they’ve reinforced my decision not to shop with them. And they should change the name to Used To Be Cheaper Than Dirt.

I heard that CheaperThanDirt did the same gouging during the last panic (Sandy Hook?).

My fav online retailer (SGAmmo who held their prices right up until they had to shut down orders due to being overwhelmed) has been saying for a few months now that most of his upstream distributors have warned about upcoming price hikes. I guess due to rising cost of raw materials. And that was BEFORE the corona-panic. I dont know mid-to-long-term what this will do to prices.

I used to like Cheaper than dirt but, after seeing that, will never buy from them again. I will stick with SGAmmo.

SGA Ammo:
Due to overwhelming order volume over the past week we are not currently accepting new orders. We are currently 5 to 7 days behind on filling orders and the priority is going to be given to filling existing orders. We will begin to restore inventory later this week once we have a handle on shipping all orders that have been placed so far. In order to aid us in providing faster service, please do not email to ask when your order will ship unless you need to cancel or change the address. UPS will email tracking info the day the order ships and we are working as fast as we possibly can to fill your orders. We have inventory allocated to fill all existing orders, if you have an order in it will be filled.

My understanding is SGammo is a small operation. They have an incredible inventory tho. That’s the only place I order from and have never had a single issue.

I posted this thread hoping to bring attention to those companies taking advantage of people. Everyone needs to make a buck but at a certain point it’s highway robbery. And when everything calms back down I won’t have anything to do with businesses that took advantage when things got hard.

Cheaper Than Dirt is dead to me after they did all the price gouging during the last ammo shortage.

I’m sitting on thousands of rounds…22LR…5.56…308…243…9mm…40mm…$1000 per round +shipping…said the ant to the grasshopper. Just kidding of course. Very glad I stocked up years ago.

I’ve never purchased anything from CTD. Now I know why.

CTD is up there with Brownells for me. I also use SG almost exclusively. If you plan well and understand their shipping model (They tell you how many more lbs you can order without increasing S&H), it is a great deal.

And then, they are all of a sudden, out of stock, projecting May delivery.:scream:

Not price gouging per se… But MrGunsNGear discusses his thoughts on current and upcoming ammo shortages. He has some contacts in various places in the ammo supply chain.

TL;DW -> Common calibers are selling out quickly. He thinks .22LR will be next. Mags are in stock, but maybe not for much longer. Costs will be increasing regardless of coronavirus after all is said & done
