A Democracy? Or a Constitutional Republic? PLEASE let’s start calling our form of Government what it actually is.
Why? Well how do you change a thing? One way is to continually call it something it is not!
I have noticed many seem to have come to hold the belief that we have a democracy and the majority rules! Which seems to be a part of the woke etc… and it also seems to fuel the removal of the electoral college in some states, which if I recall correctly was to prevent the majority from ruling over the minority . Seems our education system is doing it’s best to misrepresent our form of government? Their efforts SEEM to be paying off… perhaps it’s part of a plan of the extreme left all along? Have had some discussions on this subject online and many are adamant about democracy and majority rule!
Our founders were aware of what a democracy is, a claim is that Benjamin Franklin said, it is 2 wolves and one sheep voting on what’s for lunch. When asked what form of government we have it is reported he said a Republic if you can keep it.
I have a suggestion. Start calling it what it really is in all interviews and messages to the media and people at large. Perhaps even have the announcements made by our President and in a strongly worded press release. AND bring back civics in our system of education!!! Right now students are being fed mis or dis information concerning our form of government in the absence of civics. Maybe even threaten to make it a required pass fail class in order to vote??? Ya I know the left would go insane. And I doubt it would ever pass congress… but putting it out there might create a jolt of learning?
A quick second thought, why not start requiring states to implement a electoral college type system by counties to perhaps prevent or reduce 1 or 2 large population cities from ruling over an entire state to misery of the lower population areas?
I like the idea of a state level electoral college!
I live in Illinois and my vote has not been recognized since I was able to vote!
I am 61 years old.
This is very telling in many ways…Demon-crats knew and HAVE KNOWN about the LOOONG GAME in Politics for many, many years. This is why they have so many 80+ year old members in the House. They figured out a way to stay in strategic offices to keep this moving in the direction they needed. Ask yourself why Pelosi and the likes never ran for the coveted Office of President…because it has a Term Limit. She would have been out in two terms “if elected” then the Protector of the scheme is on the sidelines hoping someone else comes along to continue the fight. Too big of a risk…
I think it’s also in hopes that Sanders will finally be right about something. I’m fairly certain he’s been screaming “Oligarchy” for at least 82 of those 80 years.
Democracy is nothing more than mob rule by “majority.” And what is a majority but half a population + 1? In a population of 1,000, let’s say 501 oppress the remaining 499. How happy do you think the 499 will be about it? Could the 499 successfully overthrow the 501? Whether they win or lose, so much for civilization.
Couldn’t agree more! I don’t know how many times I’ve corrected people in various settings on this very thing. It’s sad that an immigrant, such as myself, find himself having to educate Americans about their own form of government and how it is different from a democracy and MUCH better.
Like Washington State where there are basically only two counties that are dominant democratic counties, and all the other less populated counties are republican. Where you have big corporations in the first and mostly farming in the rest.
Your assessment is right on. Which brings up the hypocrisy of those wanting to protect our fragile democracy. Cases in point; The majority of their endangered democracy wants border control, deportations, no men in women’s sports, kids kept free from sexual or identity indoctrination, Yet, when a majority disagrees with them, democracy is somehow in grave danger. The truth is that they want control at any cost, and when we and our idea of democracy comes out they fight tooth and toenail to retain their totalitarian ideal and rename it democracy.
Same here, and No poop (since I can’t say the real word]!
It’s always disgusting to look at the ‘voting by county’ map for IL after an election.
Something like 104 counties total, with 6 voting blue and 98 voting red.
One change that I would love to see to the electoral college system is to award electors like Maine.
Each state would have 2 electorates for the state winner. The other electorates would be awarded based on individual Congressional districts.
So a state like California would not be a 54 vote block, it becomes 2 votes (like every other state) and 52 Congressional districts. I think this would be a better representation of the voters if all states implemented it.
Yup, it’s a Constitutionally Representative Republic. Leftists fight that term tooth and nail. They love the mob rule of a democracy, even though they neither know nor want anything else of the reality of one. I almost puke every time I hear the word out of their mouths.
A state electoral worth the conversation. Every time I hear politicians, media and morons call our form of government a democracy, WITH NO CORRECTION gives me the crimson cloecka (sp).
Words matter, lying words, corrupt the minds of the ignorant.
Currently? It’s a CHARLIE FOXTROT. To return us the a Constitutional Republ8c, every single activist jude and Demotrash politician must be removed from bench and office. Now.
I share the expressed feelings of most of the posters hear and have one thing of some historic significance to add to this discussion. Early after the dawn of the Progressive era in the 20th Century, a patriotic contest in 1917 was won by a William Tyler Page … and his submission was adopted by the U.S. House of Representatives in the form of a House Resolution by the same name on April 3, 1918. It is called “The American’s Creed”:
“I believe in the United States of America, as a government [of the people, by the people, for the people] (from Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address); whose just powers are derived from the [consent of the governed] (from paragraph 2, Declaration of Independence); a democracy in a republic; a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity (principles expressed by Thomas Jefferson in his writings) for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.” – William Tyler Page, “The American’s Creed”
It is read/recited without the attributions in the parenthetical quotes. I inserted those for historical reference and to demonstrate its valid basis.
