This is a reactive scenario. I would Hold My non-dominant hand palm facing outward and yell stop, no money. At the same time, placing my dominate hand on my EDC. And Yes, this situation has happened to me. The aggressor immediately stopped and retreated.

Yes, once. Of course, I’ve been approached a zillion times like everybody by panhandlers. But only one time in Oklahoma, actually aggressively demanding money, no weapons were visible. When I was 20, (1970), in the army, newbe in Frankfurt, Germany, I was invited by a lovely young lady? To her hotel room. I followed her Thru the back door and then thru the door to the room. The lights went out. Someone hit me just behind my right ear, with something, (still got the scar). They took the money I had in my pocket. Fortunately, I had left my wallet with a friend at the bar where I met this enchanting princess. I regained what little sense I had, went to the desk and they called the police. The room was an unrented vacant room . Nothing ever came of it. I’ve been kinda paranoid about strangers approaching me ever since.

If he’s just shouting and I can see both of his hands I keep moving and tell him no. I’m trying to maintain distance and hopefully get the car between me and him. If he starts to reach inside his clothes , I am still moving but my hand is now on my gun and I am telling him to back the f off!!!. I live in Illinois, no point in threatening him with calling the cops. Hopefully he does, if he gets any more aggressive or attempts to continue to close the distance, I might stop and draw and tell him to leave. Another variable is his age and size. I am 69 and out of shape, a young man with a bat and yeah I am afraid he could kill me. A drunk who is yelling while staggering and I am getting to my car.
