Actually the state defense forces you refer to are not the militia, this group is in fact our “national guard “. The term militia in the dictionary is a group of well trained people that IS NOT governed/controlled by any state or federal entity. WE THE PEOPLE!

Virginia Defense Force is more or less attached at the hip with VaNG. Spent a few years with both. They have a site you can visit. But also, Va Def force is unarmed except at the direction of Va Govenor.
