Trump is not the first to use the name Arabian Gulf. Every country in the Gulf Cooperation Council - Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE - uses the term Arabian.
The first use of the term “Arabian Gulf” to refer to the waterway now commonly known as the Persian Gulf is attributed to Sir Charles Belgrave, a British advisor to the ruler of Bahrain. He first used the term in his journal, “Soat al-Bahrain” (Voice of Bahrain), in 1955.
The Navy records show my time sailing out of Manama Bahrain in the 1990’s as service in the Arabian Gulf.
