My name is Steve, I am currently a 27 year Career First Responder outside of Chicago. I recently completed my Illinois CCL and am new to the USCCA community. I look forward to learn more about home defense, Laws and recommendation’s on carry ,home defense and range firearms. I go to my local range somewhat regular to practice and have found a new addiction. I currently have a Walther PPS M2 which I will start to Carry, Beretta APX A1 and Taurus C2G(which not really a fan off). any good suggestions / recommendations on future hand gun purchase? Once again Thank you

Welcome! Lots of good info and people here, and an occasional troll. Try a .45 ACP 1911 (or 2011) - great fun.

Welcome to the community Steve! Depends on the things that are important to you. (Cost, Reliability, Capacity, Caliber, Reputation, Available options, etc.)

When I started only a couple of years ago, I knew nothing of the choices. My brother is a staunch Glock guy, so I got to try several of his out.

I ended up with a Glock 43xMOS 9mm because it felt like an extension of my hand, great reputation for reliability, eats everything I feed it, easily concealable, can hold a green dot optic, uses cheaper 9mm cartridges and is easy as hell to clean. The capacity of the stock model is 10 rounds, but it can be modified to fit 15. Some people complain about the stock triggers, but I have no issue with them (Ignorance is bliss I guess!)

Though they are not the sexiest firearms, I can recommend Glocks because they just work, and for me, they work well.

Greetings & welcome, Steve!

It’s a pleasure to meet you and we’re thankful that you’ve chosen to join us. Take some time browsing the existing threads as there are several which discuss, recommend and describe EDC firearms, lots of useful information and great insight from the community.

A recommendation that you’ll see quite often, and one that I subscribe to, is to put your hands on as many varying handguns as you can, see if your local range rents firearms and speak with a local USCCA Instructor who I am certain would be a great resource in assisting choosing a firearm that meets your needs, is sized appropriately for you and that meets your expectations.

Good luck to you, my friend and, again, welcome aboard.

Take care & be well
