Firearm owners have erroneously been branded as selfish and so became “conceptually distinct” and not worthy of notice. However, the definition of guardianship need not exclude weapon possession or acts of self-defense or family defense. And American firearm owners need not be seen as acting only in self-defense of themselves or their families, because that’s just not true. Statistics are very clear that American civilian gun owners frequently act to protect their community and strangers in their community. And criminologists should understand that every act of violence prevented, even protective acts, by parents or loved ones, adds to the total well-being of the community.
American gun owners are not limited to acting selfishly in self-defense. John Lott’s website recently published an account of the FBI under-reporting of the number of armed civilians who intervened in active shooting incidents and sometimes even protected strangers and police officers. Based on poor data collection, the FBI estimated that armed civilians stopped 4.6% of active shooting incidents. But CPRC data showed that the correct number to 35.7%, and even more (63.5%) if Gun Free Zones were excluded from the calculations. When the FBI was advised of the errors, they were not corrected. The CPRC website also recently published stories of armed civilians who aided police officers. The very concept of self-defense encourages the very rational act of obtaining the best tool possible – a firearm. But, armed civilians make governments nervous. GOOD! (Mi dos Centavos!)
As there are well over 400 million firearms in the U.S., and if American gun culture is the problem, we think we’d all know it. However, we find it strange that criminologists remain ignorant about the millions of civilian firearm owners in the U.S. who act as guardians. When we put numbers onto the various actors, there appear to be way too many gun-owner guardians to be able to hide them – if you care about accuracy and truth.

Remember if you will Admiral Yamamoto of Japan during WWII. I’ll paraphrase: “If we were to attack American we would not win, their people are too well armed.” Seems he understood who the Guardians were, and he respected their might.
Admiral Yamamoto graduated from the Japanese Naval Academy in 1904 and studied English at Harvard University as a special student from 1919-1921. So he was in a position to know about America’s relationship with guns.

There’s a study by John Lott about Concealed Carriers on the USCCA Website. I, believe in some small way that I helped get it out there. Because we are vilified, so I advocated very hard with @dawn and the web team @ Delta Defense at that time almost daily. We are the single most law abiding portion of Society. We are 6 times less likely to be involved in a crime, than even Law Enforcement is. We aren’t the problem. If we were, the 40,000,000 Concealed Carriers would outnumber all LEO and Military by an Order of Magnitude. That’s not even getting into all of the other types of gun owners or even military veterans, 20,000,000 strong, (who it could be assumed with a good amount of probability are firearm owners or Concealed Carriers as well). Firearm owners are not the problem. Criminals, and the deprioritization of mental health treatment centers is the issue.
While Admiral Yamamoto was the architect of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Vice Admiral Chuichi Nagumo was the actual commander of the carrier fleet that executed the actual attack consisting of 3 (planned) waves of aircraft under the command of Commander Mitsuo Fuchida. With the obvious success of the first 2 waves, Admiral Nagumo, against the advise of Commander Fuchida, called off the 3rd wave and withdrew. It is believed that this 3rd wave was tasked with hitting the fuel depot, which remained intact.
Ironically, this same Admiral Nagumo led the carrier task force at Midway, which resulted in the loss of 4 Japanese carriers and a victory for the US, which lost the carrier Yorktown.
Considering the hurdles I need to overcome in California in order to legally carry concealed, I’m consciously trying to be on the right side of the law.

Guys. I get the prevailing sentiment here in this comment section, re, “Guardians”. Good stuff. I would suggest however that the nation is presently under assault. Under attack. Is being invaded. Since the mid 1990’s we have been undergoing a controlled demolition of this former Republic. (Yes, we can debate the timing by decades). The sheer numbers of bodies crossing all our borders simultaneously exceeds 30 million. And climbing. No end in sight. Unmarked white busses daily distribute invaders across this nation’s interior. The Japanese Admiral was right. “if we were to attack America…” But an alien force is ALREADY inside the wire. Today the Admiral’s Pipe Dream already far along. Mission begun, about to close this phase. Those who hate America found a way to exploit our laws to their advantage. The entire spectrum of our cultural and societal norms has never been prepared to defend against an enemy who fights us from this deep within our borders. We have never been here before. Our home terrain has been and is being prepared for an exhausting slugfest right under our noses. As you all know defense of self and home and community is deeply engrained in our collective EDC mentality. Well, I suggest as this cultural invasion continues we will be confronted with a measure of EDC we have never encountered and that will require far more coordinated and offensive efforts before we see a brighter future. Meantime it will get chaotic, bloody and ugly.
Difference being the attack on Pearl Harbor was during peacetime and not expected. In a stand up fight Nagumo was indecisive and strategically outclassed at Midway.
