Vacation ideas

Whale watching on Monterey Bay.
Hiking in Hetch Hetchy.
Rafting the Truckee River

Every place you mentioned are within driving distance. I’ll look up Hetch Hetchy since that’s the most feasible at this time.

Pretty sure I can write off my first week of vacation i have planned in years. Wife needs another back surgery so pending her upcoming MRI and surgical meet, im sure I’ll reschedule my vacay to be home with her. Maybe in 7 years when I retire,I’ll take a week for myself.

Last summer we drove to Lander WY for a mountain climbing film festival. Spent one night in Reno for Basque food, a couple of nights in Boise visiting friends, and a night in St George Utah on the way home.
All in all a fun vacation. The Virgin River area is gorgeous, but I would have loved to spend more time in Wyoming.

Colorado Springs is another great vacation destination—there’s so much to see!
Garden of the Gods
Manitou Springs
Olympic Training Center
Pikes Peak
Air Force Academy
Laughing Lab Scottish Ale

Hope to visit Lassen Volcanic National Park and scratch off one more off the list. It’s easier to visit all 50 states than 63 national parks.

Gray Whale watching along the coast of Washington state.

At least 14 dead gray whales have been found along Washington’s coast so far in 2026.
