The implosion of New York City

This is so sad. NYC has been my favorite city to visit for 40 years. Now, I’d be afraid to go there with my wife for an extended weekend to see some shows. So sad.

Thanks a lot, ultra-progressive, socialist-Marxist defunding wackos!

NYC residents elected a commie for mayor.

What’s happening there now shouldn’t be a surprise to sensible observers.

Yeah…I’m still sad. Such a shame.

I have only made a couple of trips to New York, all for work, and while very illegal, I drove from my home in Louisiana to New York armed with my CCW. I was a federal flood adjuster, and I did not/ do not go into disaster areas without being prepared. I was lucky and had no problems, but the truth is I would rather be alive and fighting NY then dead and having my wife and kids dealing with that result. Now retired, I just dont go to places I can’t carry.

This too, shall pass. My born-and-raised NYer friend gives this low in the cycle about 10 years to work itself out. He also thinks we have not yet seen protection rackets and the rock bottom, before the recovery.

There was a time that I was a proud New Yorker, born and bred, now I would think twice about visiting family. I retired from the NYC police department after 20 years of service. It’s ashamed how it has gone down hill. Your not safe as a resident there any more.

Well, I give you my thanks for your part in making once-beautiful NYC a safer place the times I visited. You have my gratitude. I hope that day returns.

An interesting memory about one trip to NYC a year or so after 9/11.

I was staying at the Marriott just south of the WTC site. Arriving back at the hotel one evening, I am met on the sidewalk outside by several NYPD dressed for battle and carrying some very scary looking automatic weapons. Helmet, flak jacket, the whole deal.

I walked up to one of them and said with a smile on my face “Hey, I’m staying at this hotel tonight. Should I be worried?”

Officer explained that they just popped up around the city now and then to present a show of force so the bad guys wouldn’t forget they were there.

I thanked him.

And slept very well that night.

Many of our big cities across the nation is experiencing the same issues. The Justice system is so overwhelmed, crime so out of control, police shortages, and still the law abiding citizens with our hands tied behind our backs with all the gun control restrictions having to maneuver thru the dangerous jungle while criminals living amongst us ransack our peaceful way of lives by putting everyone in harms way with their criminal life style.

Just don’t come down here and “New York” our Florida. We’re not interested in having that nonsense down here.

Sorry, I meant to send you my message about my good times in Florida, but I don’t think I would like NY.

Don’t they do it for your own good? :man_shrugging:t4:

I grew up in Southern CT, and spent a good deal of time in in NYC in the 1990s. Looking forward to visiting again soon. However, now that I concealed carry in my home state, it’s kinda concerning to me that I can’t do this in NY due to their draconian 2A laws. Probably just going to stick to Manhattan, and do whatever we are planning to do during daylight hours. Avoidance and situational awareness are key!

Maybe I was too optimistic, and NYC is really gone

My wife and I were born and raised on Long Island. We lived in Queens while Dinkins was busy flushing the city down the toilet. We had wanted out anyway, but we managed to escape to Nevada and never looked back. NYC was never a great place to begin with, but it’s getting back to the rock bottom of the 70’s-90’s now.
