A Block from my place, Roads Closed, City, County, State and Federal cops all over the place. Fire Department all over. They even have the Air National Guard over there. They should be embarrassed, or at least they will be when the figure out it’s a box someone forgot when they walked into the UPS Store.

It’s the consequences of the climate of fear we live in. The result, unfortunately, is that authorities often over-react and we lose another Constitutional right in the interest of public health or safety.
In the early 2000s, I was working for a large international corporation. The HR Director came into my office trembling because she had received a hand-addressed envelope with no return address “What should I do? It could contain anthrax!” There was lots of news about east-coast firms being targeted with anthrax attacks.
She gave me the envelope and insisted that we wait until after the office closed for the day before opening it. We did so. It contained a resume.
