The only lubricant I use for cleaning, lubing guns, bicycles and pretty much anything else with moving metal parts.

Over the years, I have tried a variety of cleaners and lubes. What, in your experience, makes this one better than the others? I’m always willing to try new products if I believe there’s an advantage to doing so.

I don’t know that it’s better than others, only that it works extremely well for me for both cycling and fitearms, which is what I do most of, so I don’t need to buy a myriad of products. SSSS is also good for nearly everything else I need to lube. I even blast my car battery posts and connectors with it.
I used to have several chemicals for guns, one or two for cleaning, one for lubricant. Then a separate wax based lube for my bike chains I made myself.
I spray the SSSS on a gunked up chain or dirty gun and leave it sit for hours, usually overnight. Then just wipe the gun clean and dry, inspect, spray it again, wipe the excess, load, holster and go. The bike chain gunk just melts off and wipes away. Spray it again, go.
SSSS makes stuff specially formulated for firearms, but the standard stuff is all I ever need for everything. Browse the site and see the products. No, I’m not affiliated with nor advertising for them.
I buy it by the dozen. Cheaper.
It’s not a petroleum product.

SSSS…another magic stuff for everything.
WD-40 works the same… I mean does the same magic… a well as Mobil 1 0W-20… and hundred of other products…
Anyway… another cleaner / lubricant… but a little expensive 🫰

I discovered Super Slick Stuff more than 30 years ago. There were some very rusty bolts I needed to remove on a boat that stayed in salt water 24/7. I tried WD-40, then PB Blaster, then 3-in-1, and liquid wrench – no luck moving those bolts.
Ace Hardware had Super Slick Stuff at about twice the price of the others. I tried it, and within a couple minutes all rusted bolts came right out. Thinking Super Slick Stuff maybe had an advantage with the others working on the bolts over a period of weeks, I tried it on the other engine and sure enough, this stuff works.
It has been my only penetrating spray ever since. It does not absorb water and has a fresh orange smell. I have never used it on my firearms as I have always felt it is too light of a lubricant, but never say never. 🙂

Love ya @Jerzees , but I will strongly disagree with you on this one! WD-40 absorbs moisture, so if you want something to rust up, spray some WD-40 on it and sit back and watch the rust grow.
SSS does not absorb moisture …
WD-40 does do a couple things SSS can’t do - it does a good job as a substitute for engine starter fluid if you have a carbureted engine. It also works good on the inside of a distributor cap that is wet. Spray it on and and dry it off. It will absorb more moisture than just drying it.

Thanks for the SSS info @Ted64 and @Gary_H
I have been looking for a WD 40 replacement for freeing rusty bolts and a general lube and this
sounds worth a try. Doubt I will use it on my firearms though except maybe to try it as a cleaner.
Just don’t order from the manufacturer site (outrageous shipping fees) or Amazon (higher prices).
Lowe’s has it in stock for $8 per can. They are out of stock at the moment on the gun cleaner specific product though. Would have given it a try since I am starting to run low on my current products and am not 100% happy with them.

If you are looking for an all-in-one cleaning kit from a single source I recommend Real Avid products. BoreSnakes are not optimal for removing copper fouling (not enough metal to metal contact). However, you can reduce the time and effort required to remove copper by making several passes through the barrel with your boresnake as soon as you finish shooting (with some allowance for cooling). My go-to cleaners, solvents, and lubricants are from Breakthrough - they are non-toxic and work well.

Hoppes#9 is all ive used since i was a kid and im 53 now. Why change what works great. Plus i love the smell, it brings back memories while im cleaning my guns. I dont let my guns sit around dirty after I’ve used them. I always sit down and tear them down for a good cleaning after I’ve used them. You need to take care of them, I’ve never understood why you wouldn’t clean your gun after using it. Your life depends on it.

WD-40 is junk.
After washing my bike chain, I dont need to dry it before putting on SSSS. I just spray it on the wet chain. SSSS displaces all the water and it evaporates while SSSS sticks to my chain and keeps me slick for a coupla weeks.

WD40 is junk. Dries out, turns yellow, collects dust. Thats a non-no on a bicycle or a gun.
True enough, that is easily remedied by – spraying more WD40 on the problem. But who needs that?

If you think so, you have no idea how to use it then.
Because of its feature, WD-40 is needed when we recover our guns lost in a boating accident… 😉
It’s also a very good cleaner and rust remover, but has to be wiped off and replaced with any lube.
