Wondering if anyone else has had something like this happen to them.
I’m selling tools, drill, hand grinder, jig saw, electric winch, etc, etc, on Facebook Market Place.
Had a gentleman contact me about the winch. Man came to look it over and purchased it. His vehicle had a security business logo handling alarms, cameras, etc.
After the purchase of the winch he then, out of the blue, asked if I had any guns for sale.
WTF, was this. My response was are you looking for a caulking gun. My reasoning was we were here about hand tools.
He said no, guns you can shoot with.
My answer then was NO. Then I said goodbye.
Be alert at all times who you might be speaking to and think smart and quickly before you speak.
Shoulda said no. But I do have some fishing gear.
He was fishing for sure.
I have found that many of the security companies that do that type of work have convicts for employees. Me, personally, I don’t have an issue with anyone who has done their time and is getting their life back together. More power to them.
He may have been a convict himself looking for a workaround on buying a weapon.
Did you post anything gun-related on faceless book?
Never ever, not a place for that.
I wouldn’t have thought anything of it unless he wanted to buy them illegally. Is that what it seemed to you?
@ Robert1246, IT’S just I was selling tools and out of the blue he’s asking to buy guns.
A stranger from a city 70 miles away, he did say where he was from. This was STRANGE to me.
That’s the only reason I could think of why he would ask that kind of question out of the blue.
I know I did when I was an excited new gun owner. I’ve since deleted all of them including unfollowing USCCA on Facebook.
Where I live it is gun friendly so a question like that would be normal. Maybe he is from a gun friendly area.
IMHO don’t really matter if someone ask…
BUT…
if ya want to stay outa trouble always answer NOPE!!!
I’ve had this happen several times when we have had garage sales. I’ve also been asked if I have any ammo to sell. My answer to both is truthful “No, I don’t”
Probably looking for firearms that doesn’t trace back to him or others that may not legally have them in their possession. They’ll be coming after the ones it is registered to.
Nope, I got nothing.
Same here. Coming from the mindset of a free state, the question about whether having any firearms for sale wouldn’t have raised any concerns here.
I’ve had several garage sales over the past seven years, and at almost each one, someone (even multiple people) have asked if I have any guns for sale: par for the course. Naturally, if selling a firearm, it would behoove one to see valid ID, copy it, and have them sign a receipt.
never had that happen when selling anything online as i meet away from the house at a well lit / site with backup. the only intruding questions about guns came during a routine doctors visit yrs ago i was handed a questionnaire with “routine health questions” to fill out for her. started out that way but, on page 2 tucked between health ?s was this one. “do you have any guns inthe home.” . iI was angered at such an itrusive ? answered no in caps, none of their business, and changed docs after that.
here is something related to spying on you for guns AI
Interesting story. Maybe there was something else which got your “Spidey Senses Tingling”. IDK. I can see both sides, suspicion and cautiousness, whereas others who were not there, can see it as more common or normal.
Glad nothing more negative occurred.
Not taking sides, but if he were legit - maybe he bought something similarly from someone else who happened to offer a firearm for sale, “on the up and up”, and he could have meant to offer to purchase legally.
Maybe he heard of some folks who have a firearm in the attic or basement but never use them; He hoping to stir up an interest to sell, and he end up with a nice deal. His traveling 70 miles, might have motivated him to ask.
If you were also seeing other things, having tools made him think you were someone who does DIY projects, and likes the outdoors, not afraid of hard work. Maybe he thought you’d be a firearm owner, and he felt he could trust you.
Perhaps, since the U.S. has never had so many firearms than we do today, we might hear of more such stories.
Or, as others shared, he might have preferred under the table, but IDK.
I know whenever I go to a garage sale, or flea market, I always look for used fishing gear. To the point, where if I don’t see it, I will ask anyways.
