SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTVO) — A bill to increase taxes on the purchases of firearms and firearm components in Illinois will be discussed by the Revenue and Finance Committee and Sales Tax Subcommittee on March 13th.
The bill would amend the Use Tax Act, Service Tax Act, Service Occupation Tax Act and the Retailer’s Occupation Tax Act.
House Representative Rita Mayfield’s proposition would impose a 3.75% surcharge on firearms and firearm components purchased in the state.
An Illinois State Rifle Association Member feels the bill is unconstitutional.
“firearms are a constitutional right, not a sin,” said Richard Pearson. “Secondly, this bill violates the brewer decision that says you can’t take firearms and have a special tax on them.”
The proposal would go along with the Protecting Illinois Communities Act, which bans the sale of assault-style weapons and certain attachments in Illinois.
Chicago is a study on gun violence and gun laws. Seems to me that somewhere along the line the powers that be would look out over the landscape and realize that all of the laws, all of the enforcement, all of the propaganda aren’t working. One would like to think, if they really cared, they would try something different, like targeting gang violence, you knw, the kids that are going around shooting each other in the name of Disrespect…
Actually, Chicago is a study in gun violence (if gun violence was your goal) and the misapplication of the law in an attempt to curb gun violence … thus the opposite result. Others have said this, too, … that this is what they want. That is correct! We continually make the assumption that strong gun control laws are put in place by the idiots running whatever level of government enacts them. It’s time WE smartened up!
Allow me to preface my statement with the observation that they aren’t fools; they are wolves in sheep’s clothing (not who they want us to think they are). It doesn’t take a genius to read our Declaration of Independence (which was written so as to be understood by anyone with a 3rd grade education of the time) and understand that what unites us is TOLERANCE for the Rights of others … that we as individuals do NOT have any Rights that any other individual doesn’t have because our Human Rights listed there come from the Creator and were conferred upon us when He created us: At conception. Therefore, we cannot take any action or do anything with our lives that would interfere with anyone else’s ability to do what they wish with their life … with the same caveat applying to them.
Since those basic Rights of “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” are possessed by each of us, NO ONE’S RIGHTS are superior to the Rights of any other, and it is tolerance for the Rights of others built into this concept that makes Freedom work without the interference of government. No one can exercise any of his/her Rights if they interfere with the Right of any other individual to exercise any of his/her Rights. Honoring that principle of behavior (respect for the Rights of others) is what makes Freedom work. Violating that premise causes the need for regulations and laws that place limits on freedom, and government is more than willing to do that.
Breaking the phrase down, law abiding individuals and officers enforcing the law have the same Rights to Life (absolute control over their lives and destinies within the scope of their Rights), Liberty (the political atmosphere that protects their ability to exercise their Rights), and the Pursuit of Happiness (engaging in any legal occupational pursuit or activity so long as it doesn’t interfere with anyone else’s Right to do the same with THEIR Life).
Chicago has the distinction of having the largest duplicity with respect to the Right to Keep and Bear Arms of any city in the nation. 1) Because it has some of the strictest Gun Control laws in the nation resulting in one of the highest crime rates in the nation, and 2) It is the home of University of Chicago School of Law professor John R. Lott, Jr. - author of “More Guns - Less Crime” which is the definitive study on the subject of the presence of guns in the hands of responsible citizens and their effect on crime rates. The title (which he changed half way through his research because he was anti-gun and his statistics were proving his theory [More Guns - More Crime] to be wrong) says it all ! As it turns out, “An armed society is a polite society.”
These restrictive laws present a legal “Catch 22” for those who understand that, not only is “Self-Defense” a Natural Right, it is an obligation under American Law as explained in Warren v District of Columbia - 444 A 2d, 1 (DC Appl., 1981). This ruling upheld rulings in similar cases at the state level and other inferior courts. This case involved 4 women who were assaulted and brutalized over a 14 hour period by men who rented rooms in the house they inhabited. They had called 911 in DC and, although the police responded, they failed to investigate thoroughly while the men forced the women to be silent. The horrific details are available online.
The women sued the city for failure of the police to investigate the 911 calls thoroughly and to protect them.
The decision stated that it is a “fundamental principle of American Law” that no federal, state or local jurisdiction (nor any subdivision thereof) may be found liable for failure to provide government services (police protection, fire protection, water) to any individual - only to society as a whole. It said that this is NOT some legal aberration applicable only to the District of Columbia, nor a ploy to avoid just liability. The principle that each individual must be his/her own “first line of defense” against crime, with the police providing only an auxiliary general deterrent, is “Inherent in a free society.”
Encouraging gun violence by removing the Right of people to resist is only one facet of a plan to implement policies designed to cause a societal breakdown through chaos. “Divide and conquer.” Dividing us into warring factions along party lines, Common Sense against Political Correctness, along racial lines (White vs Black), inventing non-existent gender differences, inventing special Rights for classes of individuals, dumbing down the population through ridiculously poor education, class envy scenarios (making people hate the rich when they are the ones with the ability to create jobs), gang violence in our cities based on race or Colors, Socialists vs Capitalists, converting Rights into privileges … you get the picture.
Most importantly, religious divisions and war ON Christianity. Why? Remove the Deity (Creator - the source of our Rights) and government becomes the source of our Rights and removes the distinct difference between AMERICAN freedom (Rights from the Creator over which government has no power) and any other Constitution of any other nation that has ever existed at any time. Our government is intended to have powers limited by the people who established it (Preamble to our Constitution) and ours is the ONLY government in world history to have acknowledged that our Rights come from the Creator. Once acknowledged by government as ours did in 1776 and 1787, government can never say Natural Law Rights of the people don’t exist. That’s what’s at stake for our free people in this Republic, and why their actions are NOT stupidity, They are EVIL INTENT!
