While we talk about firearms, tactics, self defense philosophies, Some of us, me included, have shown pictures of our guns. Do you worry? We know they are watching. We know they monitor this and other similar sites. Are we setting ourselves up for a knock on the door? When the anti 2A crowd wins a battle are we giving them the info they need to enforce their new, ever changing laws…?
Pay attention to the exact words "posts read, written, and commented" “Posts Read”, what you thought of the post, agree or disagree matters not, they are logging “Posts Read”.
What is being logged doesn’t surprise me at all, I looked up something for my sons RC truck, then suddenly the adds in my solitaire game were for RC stuff!
As it stands in America, no, I’m not concerned about “laws” regarding what I post or read, however I can think of a particular religion with political aspirations that would absolutely love to see laws put in place similar to what happened in Europe.
There are “too many laws” when the legal system stops “making society safer” or fairer and instead becomes too complex, costly, arbitrary, or intrusive for ordinary people to understand and follow.
A few signs that may be happening:
People cannot reasonably know what is legal without expert help for routine decisions.
Enforcement becomes selective, so officials can punish some people while ignoring others.
Compliance costs outweigh public benefits, especially for small businesses or ordinary citizens.
Laws overlap or contradict each other, creating confusion instead of clarity.
Rules criminalize minor or harmless behavior, turning normal mistakes into legal risks.
The law is used to control rather than protect, limiting liberty without a clear public need.
That said, the issue is usually not just the number of laws. A society can have many well-designed laws and function well, or fewer laws that are vague, unjust, or poorly enforced. The better question is: Does each law solve a real problem, do so fairly, and impose no more burden than necessary?
