Might I also suggest a weapon mounted light. If the door is breached to aid in a clear view and an aimed shot. Just saying.
G.O.A.T. - Greatest of all Time? I don’t own an AR, so I am not up on all the acronyms associated with the platform. Please enlighten me.
You may not have been a Tier One Operator, but I can imagine with your experience you did get to pal around with a few. You were also an instructor, so you have more training than us regular guys.
My plan is my plan. Your plan is your plan. If I get into a home invasion and my plan works, I will let you know as soon as the dust settles. If it doesn’t work, oh well. I hope you would do the same.
Technically, I was already on the soapbox…
My personal sidearm is on my hip when I am awake. When I am asleep, it is on the nightstand. It has a fully loaded mag and one in the pipe. Spare mags are all over the house.
My long arm is staged behind the hall door going into the back of the house. That door has a gravity operated brace that blocks the door closed once the family is behind it. It has a full mag, one in the pipe and a sling pack with fully loaded spare mags.
HD Shotty is in a mattress rack on the side of the bed. Magazine is full and there is one in pipe.
In a perfect world, there would be no bad guys.
JMO.
EDITED - I noticed I did not state the status of my long arm. That has been corrected.
Worked around Air force PJ’s at Kirtland AFB, they had a Goat herd, they practiced their medical trauma skills on them.
That makes sense.
Tjhe original Mossberg barrel was for slugs so there was no choke as is correctly stated there is no choke on the 18" defensive barrel
agreed
Nah. after listening to folk I trust on YT I’m gonna stick with 00 buck not slugs
I will and have patterned 00 out to 7 yds but since the weapon is positioned for the 2nd floor MBR the shorter distances are closer to what I’d be shooting.
Thanx deranged…I was also advised to use 8 pellet shot which has less potential for that flier. But eight pellet is hard to find on the sites I use.
Like it Robert1576
Thanx for the ammo advice Nathan57
I want you on my side. Do you live in SE Pennsylvania per chance?
I like the loading plan. However I neglected to mention I also have a Glock 13 rd one in the barrel at the bedstand that will be my wife’s weapon. She can outshoot me sometimes at the range.
I appreciate the advice but here is what I’m thinking. I will have all the lights on in the second floor I can. Better visibility from the hallway and the light on in the bedroom with my wife and I behind cover aiming for the door. I live in a big city in Pa. and I know my house better than any threat that would enter. Since they would have to breach my barricaded bedroom door to get to us (my wife and I) I would immediately start shooting the second they began attempting the breach. Assuming the first one goes down, I’m guessing others might want to leave. If not I’ve got a side saddle on the shotty with additional rounds as well as a full box of 25 in the closet where I will post for shooting.
Like the statement
“In a perfect world, there would be no bad guys.”
Maranatha!!!
That was what I was thinking. Especially since I am using 9 pellet buckshot which I have wheard is notorious for a one pellet flier
true that deranged.
That 9th pellet at 15 feet might make your pattern 3 inches? The pattern will be tight and devastating.
Unless you sleep with all your lights on you might not have time to turn the ones you want on during a home invasion. Criminals also have a habit of taking advantage of power outages. Your wife may not be in the bedroom with you when the criminals invite themselves in. She might even be outside of your home when the trouble starts. Plus I suspect it is much more disorienting for a criminal to break into a room where the only light source is shinning directly into their eyes.
Our plan A is to retreat to our secure area as well. Our area has the advantage of having a fatal funnel and a spot to place a flashlight away from my position that illuminates the funnel but leaves both my wife and I in the dark. But I like to have lights on my go to home defense firearms anyways and additional flashlights next to them in case I get stuck having to potentially confront attackers outside of our safe area. I want to positively ID the targets and be able to confirm when the threat has been stopped.
My shotgun is not my primary or even secondary home defense weapon. But I like having a light on it just in case.
