I am an old member who has just started using the site. My family and I will be traveling from Texas to Washington state for a month or so and wondered since I can not carry in OR or WA, what is expected of me while securing my weapon in my RV or truck for our stay? I have a gun safe in both my RV and Truck. These are the first states where my Texas permit does not allow me to carry and want to make sure I am protected.
Thank you for any info about the correct behaviors I can do.
Open carry is legal without a license for anyone at least 21 years old who is legally allowed to possess a firearm. Some areas are off-limits, including public schools and state courthouses. Based on the passage of SB 5038, open carry is also prohibited at the Capitol, any state legislative office, any public legislative hearing or meeting and within 250 feet of a permitted demonstrations. You must have a valid permit/license to carry a loaded handgun in any vehicle in Washington.
Without a license, firearms must be transported locked within the vehicle and concealed from view from outside the vehicle.
While in Oregon and Washington, make sure your firearm is securely stored, unloaded, and locked in a gun safe, with ammo stored separately. Always check local laws for any additional regulations. Stay safe and enjoy your trip!
