Single shot

How practical is it?

Depends on the use.

Like what?

I get why some folks use a Ruger No. 1.

It’s a ‘Hilary’ shotgun.

A lot of people keep them as survival guns. Low maintenance, compact and adaptable. Rifled inserts are available in many lengths and calibers including rimfire. Smoothbore adapters for other shotgun gauges are also available. I noticed it had a muzzle brake. Single 12’s have brutal recoil with heavy loads. The vent rib allows the use of clamp on sights or optic bases.

For hunting it will work just fine, I have several single shot rifles that I really enjoy. These are cheaper, lower maintenance and has dramatically less points of failure.
