I am in the process of apply for a non resident license to carry a concealed weapon in the state of Rhode Island. You have the option of trying to obtain this license through the RI Attorney General office or through any specific town that is processing the LTC applications. My understanding is that if you go through the attorney general office it is a “may issue” situation and through RI towns a “shall issue” situation. So I decided to apply through the town in which my son and his family live in . However the town is requiring a letter from me detailing the reasons why the town should issued the LTC and explain how carrying a concealed pistol or revolver on my person will mitigate any threats to my person or property. This sounds like a “may issue” request of information. I thought under the Bruen decision showing a special need for self-defense to obtain a license to carry a handgun in public was struck down.

Anyway I was wondering if other members that were successful in obtaining a non resident RI LTC would be willing to share what information they provided authorities as reasonable reason for their liking.
Introduce yourself here, then post
SCOTUS decisions mean absolutely nothing to the radical left who run these states.
I feel better now, my CA County Sheriff accepts a one-liner, “for lawful self-defense.”
You are not helping here… ![]()
However, reading this thread, I personally feel much better being resident of Illinois. I just spend some time with Instructor, send $$$ to IL State Police and my permit is given without any weird questions…

Now.. let’s get back to @Joseph628 problem….
I’m not sure who has a nonresident LTC from RI here.
If I were to write the letter, it would be as someone suggested (unknown, deleted name)
My reason for applying for a Rhode Island License to Carry is for lawful self-defense purposes under RI general law and Federal law when visiting family and friends in the State.
“Short, sweet, never give more info then necessary to tyrants.”
Not sure though if that’s sufficient to please the tyrants.
I suspect they are looking for reasons in the letter Not To Issue a permit not for reasons To Issue a Permit…
I agree with you Jerzees reading this thread make me feel really good about living in Texas where I renewed my LTC by mail.![]()
