Revolver Recommendations

IIRC the last revolver the FBI issued the troops was a S&W Model 13, 357 with a 3" Barrel six shot K frame with a round butt,
If you can find one.

I shot a cylinder of those hard cast Keith 158 grains out of my aluminum Airweight with an Altamont wood grip. My hand hurt for about 3 days. No exaggeration, and my hands are not that sensitive to pain.

Those things hit HARD.

And, to add, I shoot +P’s, including Underwood 125 grain, and Remington 158 grain+P out of those 642’s all the time, and nothing hurts my hand. Those Underwood hunting rounds are loaded to a whole different level of +P. And, they’re LOUD.

I switched to all Underwood in our pistols and rifle, all the rounds have been very accurate.
I shoot. .32ACP, 9mm, .38spcl, .45ACP, and 7.62x39. :+1:

You can’t go wrong with the most proven concealed carry revolver, the J-frame used by Detectives and back-ups by police for 1/2 a century. I carry the best one, the PD340 made of Scandium & Titanium so it weighs ~11oz. I added an XS Big Dot sight bc my eyes have declined.
You can see PD340 reviews on Youtube, I like TFB Channel:

Mr Guns and Gear:

You can get J-frames with 3” barrels at 22oz (Model 60)

If you want something larger and 6rounds go with the K-frame Model 19 at 33oz.
I own the L-frame 686 Plus (7shots) and love it but think it’s took big for concealed carry.

The Model 327 is a great option; 8rnds, 23oz.
Honest Outlaw does great reviews: https://youtu.be/d9_ZErYpyrY?si=yCc0sa3Q9BUUheHK

Smith and Colt forge their frames so they tend to be stronger and smaller that Ruger who cast their frames; that’s why the Ruger’s are bigger bc they need more metal to make up for the lower strength of cast metal.

Interesting post.

In terms of a safety, I do wonder if there are any revolvers for sale which have something like a thumb safety on them. I realize I’ve not seen any as their trigger pulls being harder.

I saw some models with a locking mechanism, such as on some Smith Wessons, just not my personal preference, especially if I can place my own independent lock and key on it when I need to.

Are you thinking for EDC? All steel or lightweight?

Hope you find what your’e searching. Best to you.

I have a 4” one, but found it a bit big to carry regularly.

I don’t believe that you’re going to find a stock revolver with an external safety.
