We call sheriff about illegal dumping on our self maintained road. The Deputy caught the persons and ticketed them.
The next evening at 10:50 pm they retaliated by battering down our mail boxes with a truck.
And itās filmedā¦brilliant!
Isnt that a federal offense by running over a mailbox?
This should be a pretty easy on if they are already known to the police.
Indeed it is, mailboxes are considered Federal property
Sounds like upstanding piller of society type of people. Go from a misdemeanor to possible felony cuz they got their feelings hurtā¦
My buddy had this happen a couple of times, then he dug a deep hole stuck a 4x4 square steel pipe into the hole, filled the hole with concrete, filled the pipe with concreate mounted his mailbox on top and painted everything black. Next time someone decided to drive over his mailbox, his mail box was at a slight angle but I bet their vehicle was fā¦ed from the amount of radiator fluid around it.
I had an issue with my mailbox being hit a number of times. I built a wall of garden bricks around it. I havenāt had an issue since. Seems if the target looks like it will cause more damage than it receives, it is avoided. Reminds me of our self-defense tactics. Low-T criminals will typically avoid us and find less harmful (to them) targets.
They couldnāt find a Tesla to hit?
Mailbox was just a side quest on the way to the tesla
I believe that only applies to USPS mailboxes and not private residential mailboxes.
āā¦..the process starts with the residentās purchase of an up-to-code mailbox. (You can visit usps.com to find out about all the necessary specifications). However, once a mailbox is properly installed and ready for use, it is effectively considered Federal Property.
According to federal law (Title 18, United States Code, Section 1705), it is āa crime to vandalize mailboxes (or to injure, deface or destroy any mail deposited in them). Violators can be fined up to $250,000, or imprisoned for up to three years, for each act of vandalism.ā This law puts your mailbox under Federal jurisdiction in order to protect you (the resident) from any harm or vandalism that may occur from a mailboxās misuse. (Aside: vandalism and even mail theft are rarely prosecuted as federal crimes,ā
Why Mailboxes are Federal Property).
Soooo many options that would be rather expensive for the perpetrators. Game on I say!
I was once told if you put a mailbox out in front of your home to receive mail from USPS that box is technical USPS property from that day forward.
Awhile back, some peoples boxes were getting hit with baseball bat drive byes. Steel plate and a steel pipe anchor cured that.
A few decades ago I was living in Olympia WA. We had a huge problem with meth heads driving through the neighborhoods and checking mailboxes for anything of value. They would drive up in the middle of the night, open and sweep a hand through your box in a few seconds, then would be off to the next box
I decided this was going to stop.
I purchased a large rat trap. Not a mouse trap. This sucker was about 4 times bigger, and had an arm that would easily break fingers. Every night after sunset I would carefully arm the rat trap in the box. The next morning I would shove a stick in the mailbox to spring the trap. After about a week I came out to find the trap and my mailbox were gone. We never had a problem with stolen mail after that, at least the next year or so while I lived there.
DO NOT DO THIS AT HOME KIDS
When damaging other peopleās private property isnāt enough to satisfy your special brand of mental illness so you destroy your own property.
This is why we canāt have nice things.
@William377 Some idiots just donāt quit. These arenāt the same jerks that live not too far down the road from you, are they? Or are there other fools just coming around to harass.
@Ronald150, they/he are either the ones from the day before who got caught and ticketed for illegal dumping or freinds of theirs. You use the term, Idiots and jerks. Your being to nice to them.
