RENTON, Wash. — On June 5th, 17-year-old Hazrat Ali Rohani was shot and killed outside the Big 5 Sporting Goods Store in Renton. Investigators say that 51-year-old Aaron Myers, a retired Navy veteran and off-duty security guard, confronted him and two of his friends outside the store because he believed they were going to rob the store and cause harm.
Myers also claims he saw the teens brandishing what looked like guns before walking toward the store, which made him fear for his and his child’s safety. Myers confronted the teens about it, and then a fight broke out which then led to Myers shooting Rohani several times.
Jurors have found an off-duty security guard guilty of killing a Renton teenager after a verdict was reached in court on Friday.
For me there isn’t enough info here did the boy attempt to pull the gun and that’s why he was shot. If that is the case then the 51 yr old should have been not guilty. If no weapon was pulled or attempted to be pulled bad shoot. Also JMHO he had his kid with him why not just call 911 protect yourself and kid first, keep an eye on the boys and only react if they attempt something b4 Police arrive.
I found this in another article (The Guardian) about the shooting:
A teenager who tried to return a malfunctioning replica gun that shoots plastic projectiles to a sporting goods store in [Washington state] was shot to death by an off-duty security guard who believed the boy was holding a real gun and planned to rob the business, according to authorities.
IF the teen was simply returning a “broken” replica gun, why was it not in a bag, box, packaging. Was there a receipt of purchase on the boy?
This is called ‘UNDER REPORTING’ (or HALF a Story) (If you read carefully also you will see a Biased attempt to CONVICT the Hapless Security Guard in the Public court of opinion.
My view on Self Defense has CHANGED! (in the last 15 months) IF I AM NOT DIRECTLY INVOLVED I WILL NOT ENGAGE. PERIOD. Another Topic suggested a possible scenario of a Mad Neighbor shooting up the street, bullets hitting Innocents houses (a genuine cause to possibly getting skin in the game yourself).
THIS? NOPE! Stores have security (and an obligation to protect their customers) Let them sink or swim. Mr. Myers also had his child with him. Bad Call.
Being a Security Guard you have do’s and don’ts’s on the job. Oh, and one important factoid YOU ARE NOT A COP!. (oh, and you are OFF DUTY!) This isn’t you’re store! Protect your family and call it in. For one thing Mr. Myers is out of a job. Most Security companies (that aren’t Name Brand/ Corporations operate on a shoe string budget. Any ‘Controversary’ and the first causality is prolly the Guard. How about backing the Guard? In this and many others they are on their own. So think about this…
This is a CAUTIONARY TALE TO ALL WHO CARRY!
We’re doing better, Awesome things are coming down the pike too!, GREAT CHANGE IS HAPPENING—BUT WE AIN’T THERE YET! Corruption and EVIL are still alive (sort of) and well. Make damn sure this is what you want to do (Protecting Innocents/ Protecting the Public–who just might be the same people on you’re JURY!)
Look 2 how Liberal/Socialists view Guns and Gun Ownership---- Do you really want to get in a pissing match with crooked DA’s, Prosecutor’s and Judges THEN rely on getting a fair shake by the Jury Pool of Woke, Indoctrinated MISFITS? Not me man! No way.
If I am in a true fight for survival I WILL FIGHT LIKE THE THIRD MONKEY GETTING ON THE ARK!. WHATEVER IT TAKES to WIN! I’m there. I train up weekly and know some stuff, I have a tentative PLAN (that usually goes out the window because some cheeze-dik didn’t follow his part !) But the main thing for me is to NOT HESITATE or FREEZE! As long as I do that I have a chance at surviving that thing.
This guy opened up a can of worms he now has to eat. No Thank you. USCCA can’t save you from stupid (impulsive, false White Knight ego’s) YOU WILL BURN (especially in a Blu-State. Char-Broiled!
two other teens went to the store to return or exchange BB guns. Myers, who had a loaded Glock 19 in his truck, approached them in the parking lot. Despite the teens repeatedly telling him the guns were not real, Myers allegedly believed they were real firearms and posed an immediate threat.
Body camera and witness testimony showed Myers exiting his truck armed, attempting to detain the teens, and then firing multiple shots. Prosecutors say Rohani was struck once in the side and six times in the back, even as he raised his hands and turned away. the teens attempted to comply with commands and reportedly told Myers the guns were not real.
Myers’ defense team maintained he was acting to prevent violence.
Jurors were shown police body camera footage in which Myers told officers he believed one of the teens was reaching for a handgun.
Police are “allowed” to shoot perps carrying anything that looks like a firearm and have won in courts, too. Even where it was “only” a bb gun or Airsoft gun. This case, from the limited information, makes his shooting suspect. No pun intended.
