I actually just picked up a 5x magnifier for my red dot… i just need to get a swivel base for it…
Not to hijack the thread, but any recommendations on a red dot or holographic dot for somebody with a severe astigmatism? I know every astigmatism is different, but I need a place to start because of all of the options that are out there.
I would like to say thanks for the information all of you have put out here on this one. Even with new glasses my eye sight is not like it once was (bi-focals can be a pain). I have been considering adding one or the other and was not sure what I should be looking for or comparing to make my decision.
My dad cannot see irons on any pistol. His coworker showed him a pistol with a green dot on it, and my dad liked it. He has bifocals too.
I am not to that point that I can not see them but it may take an extra second to focus and I am not liking that (the price we pay for living a long life I guess)
I like the SIG Romeo 5 on my AR15. It’s simple, light, and inexpensive (about $120 online). After I saw a review of the Romeo 5 where the reviewer shot the optic with a 12 gauge shotgun, and it was still working fine, I had to buy one. I also just added the SIG Juliet 3 magnifier as well.
Vortex is not bad… I have a couple. Triton makes a couple nice ones. I have a newer Triton. Both are pretty good. I have a tricon on my AR10 (300 Blackout) and a Vortex on my 7.62/308 and a Vortex on my 5.56. Side note, I did have the tricon on my Citori 725 ( 12 gauge ) just to see how durable it was. I put 300-400 rounds through it shooting trap and skeet, no issues at all!
That’s a nice set up
Thank you sir
I love my vortex
Green will work in any light condition where sometimes red is hard to pickup.
I went with the Trijicon accupoint 1-6x24’s with the German post reticle and green dot on my AR’s, Mini 14’s and M1A’s after decades of fooling around with different optics and irons.
I’d rather have to send them in to change the tritium vial every 7-10 years than be dependent on batteries.
I recently purchased a holosun 503GU that I really like so far. I personally like the green more than the red dot. This model has the dot and the ring which I really like. I do like that when you pick up the fire arm or move it it switches on automatically and then will shut off automatically if it hasn’t been moved for a period of time. These are a little more expensive than the Sig Romeo’s but Botach had the best price I could find at the time + free shipping. Holosun just recently came out with gold dot sights which should also be a serious consideration.
I put a Vortex Strikefire II Red/Green on my. Use your USCCA membership discount at Optics Planet.
I’m getting older, so are my eyes unfortunately. I’m considering a variable scope with illuminated crosshairs.
Can you say which website/app you’re using? Not sure if that’s allowed or not. I saw a Leupold and a Vortex UH 1 for crazy cheap, but I’m scared that they’re cheap knockoffs and might suck.
Totally allowed, @Jason2! Sharing reviews and reference links are allowed. Selling them yourself on this Community, not so much.
Thanks Dawn! Good to know.
Give the Trijicon 1-6x24 accupoint a hard look, you won’t regret it.
Not an inexpensive optic but worth every dime.
Looking at several options, I know I want an illuminated reticle.
Check out pewpewtactical.com and search optics. You’ll get unbiased reviews an buyers guides that will help you find a solid optic that meets your need and budget.
This is the sight I use to help me with optics and I am a factory certified Armorer for multiple manufactures.
It’s worth checking out
