Saw this post, and it’s a nice little thought to chew on…

“A man making $500,000 a year went on vacation and met a guy sitting by the water in the middle of a Tuesday.

No laptop. No emails. No meetings.

He asked him, “What do you do for work?”

The guy told him he did odd jobs when he needed money. His house was paid for. He didn’t owe anybody anything. Most days, he spent time with his family, fished, cooked, and sat right where he was sitting.

The wealthy man laughed.

“You could be doing so much more.”

He started telling him how he could build a business. Work harder. Make more money. Hire workers, and eventually build something big enough that he wouldn’t have to work anymore.

The guy asked, “And then what?”

“Well, eventually you could retire.”

“And do what?”

“Whatever you want. Spend time with your family. Go fishing. Sit by the water. You wouldn’t have to answer to anybody.”

The guy looked around for a second.

Then said,

“Isn’t that what I’m doing now?”

Whenever you find yourself chasing more, come back to this story and remember what you’re chasing it for.”

Anyone here remember the old fitness tests in PE? Goodness, what a time to be alive. We had the mile run. The pull-up bar. Sit-ups. Push-ups. The stupid one-arm hang.

Just the best.

CS Lewis on why “dumb blue collar people” usually do not fall for the same terrible ideas that the “educated elite class” so often does:

“Why, you fool, it’s the educated readers who can be gulled. All our difficulty comes with the others. When did you meet a workman who believes the papers? He takes it for granted that they’re all propaganda and skips the leading articles. He buys his paper for the football results and the little paragraphs about girls falling out of windows and corpses found in Mayfair flats. He is our problem: we have to recondition him. But the educated public, the people who read the highbrow weeklies, don’t need reconditioning. They’re all right already. They’ll believe anything.”
