I agree, it was the first pistol I ever fired and loved it every since (32 years worth). I just had to ask, because some people have different ideas what a ā€œTraditional .45ā€ is.

Depends on firearm. One of my pistols has a chamber port where I can physically see the round. My other two I bump check only if I donā€™t think the round chambered, since my default carry is condition 1.

Any pistol thatā€™s fought in 2 world wars and other conflicts around the world AND is still in use with some of our recon force Marines to this day. Well sir, any other point has no ground to stand on. :grin::grin:

Although I donā€™t know if itā€™s good or bad form, this is what I find myself doingā€¦

My carry piece stays loaded and holstered. My ā€œcheckā€ is generally me taking the magazine out and replacing the round which was chambered (although one firearm I commonly used has a loaded chamber indicator as a secondary verification).

However, I find myself doing press checks often when using snap caps, so as to verify the snap cap is loaded when practicing, dry firing, etc., especially if I am distracted by something in the middle of practice.

As in regards to when I disarm myself? There are a few places where State Law requires me to disarm, so I follow the law, as to a gun free zone. I do try to limit my entrance to those types of places. But due to some chronic health issues I have to go to the doctor frequently.

So I do disarm there as required by law, lock it in my car safe, and when I come back out I do a press check and mag check to make sure gun is in battery and ready to function.

I guess what Iā€™m asking is this a State law where you located? Only Hospitals are Federal no carry zones, or is it just a personal policy of your healthcare provider by posting a sign?

There is a list of places that are by state law gun free zones, for my state, on top of Federal listed gun free zones. Hospitals are one of them.

The only thing to check is the mag, so its not ejected by accident (happened before). I can do that without the weapon leaving its holster.

my carry weapons, Kahr CM9 and Glock 26 both have loaded chamber indicators you can feel at any time. I pocket carry and can put my finger inside the pocket holster to check the loaded statue without going anywhere near the trigger.

Do you think a pilot knows the condition of the airplane even when it just landed and he was flying it. Someday you are going to have a mishap because you are tooooo careless.

I press check, at various times, when I am carrying a weapon that does not have a loaded chamber indicator and am wanting to verify it.
I have had instances where I thought my firearm was loaded, and it wasnā€™t. So, from time to time, I will verify that.

@Jim52, @Zee is anything but careless. Iā€™m not sure why you would say she is.

We train to not do press checks because it is unnecessary administrative handling of the firearm.
