Prepcision magnetic pistol holder

I’ve been seeing ads for these pop up on my FB feed for a couple of months and thought they looked interesting enough to try.
Prepcision – PREPCISION
I ordered two last Wednesday and they arrived (from Miami) on Monday.
My main concern was the magnet and if it was strong enough to attract a barrel through a stainless slide. I tried my Kahr CM9 in it and there is easily in excess of 5 pounds of pull on it.
The plastic is molded thick/ heavily and looks like it will last.
It fit both my Kahr and a Ruger Security 9 with room to spare so I’m confident it will fit my 1911.

When I placed the order, they were on sale at $30 each (buy 2 save $5) and free shipping.

One is definitely going under my truck dash. Now to decide where to put the other…

This thing looks cool as hell. My only thing is, wherever you put this thing it’s going to be visible. I don’t mean the magnet itself but the pistol. You put the gun in such a way where a gun is going to hang. You put it under your dashboard, the gun is going to hang down so you’re going to see it, hit it with your knee or leg. If you put it under your table, it’s going to hang and be seen.

The concept is cool as hell. I think if it was mounted flat would be better, but that’s just me. I have kids so it would have to be hidden better than you could with this I think.

In my truck, I do want it hanging down to my right. That will only be used when on long trips where AIWB can get uncomfortable.

For a side mount, I bought some of those 10 or 15 (?) pounders at Harbor Freight and wrapped them in cloth tape. Works well but a bit strong!

A magnet in the car seems a little dangerous to me it leaves you unholstering and reholstering a loaded firearm quite a bit every time you get into or out of your vehicle or it lead you to leave a firearm unlocked and unattended I would also be worried about a quick stop or big pot hole shaking it off

I have one under my desk at home and I love it. Allows me to take whatever handgun I have on me and place it where it is away from other’s view but easily accessible to me while making me more comfortable if I’m sitting for a long period of time.

I ordered a few more but have not decided where to put them yet. While driving I keep my gun in my holster so no need for an under dash or similar and at night the gun just lays on my nightstand because it’s only my wife and I in the house.

Prepcision magnetic pistol holder

Funny, I thought it was a typo on first read.

Not to disparage the link or product posted by the OP but I have been using magnets out of dismantled computer hard drives as gun hangers for some years and I also slap a couple on my oil and transmission pans as they are hella strong.

When I ran out of room in my gun safe the LAST time I took my smaller rifles that would fit fore to aft and hung them with the magnets. For those with optics I took some vent strapping and bent a 90* 1" tab at the top and made a “J” hook with it and hung the rifle(s) in that (Ruger 10/22 with a 50mm Leupold scope on top with target turrets that weighs about 14lbs). My safe is 53" tall and 48" deep and 24" wide so I got a fair number hanging that were taking up vertical space. I use peg board and hooks for my pistols on the door so that hasn’t been an issue yet but I have wall space behind optically equipped rifles that I wouldn’t hesitate to use if my pistol collection grows.

As far as mounting pistols under the dash in a car I have a friend that works at the NTSB crash lab up the road that did some unauthorized testing for me. In almost all but the slowest crashes the pistol test dummy came off the magnets. What he found was if you use a thin piece of aluminum / plastic in between the magnets (2) and the car to form an “L” and put the muzzle snugly against the foot of the “L” the magnets work MUCH better as it stops the initial inertia of the crash.

Cheers,

I also looked into a magnetic retention mechanism for my car. It’s nice to take the gun out of my 3:30 for longer drives. Not knowing what it was going to do in an accident or big bump plus not having the trigger protected was the reason why I did not like anything I found.

Since I was using AlienGear ShapeShift, I bought a holster mount that I bolted on under the dash and and a second holster shell.

By the way, some newer cars sometimes have airbags underneath the dash. Make sure you clear those when you install whatever mount you use. Don’t want your firearm embedded in your leg or groin if the airbag happens to go off.

Don’t know if it was just me. I use a magnet system, I like it, it does what I want. On the video of this one it looked like you had to push it completely forward, which would leave it in a loaded position (yeah :tada:) but lose the +1 round (boo :no_entry_sign: )

In the one I use once it’s mounted I can change how it sits in the magnet by 90 degrees.

I think they were just trying to show that the magnet is strong enough for you to rack the pistol. Don’t think you have to do that all the time.

There is a slotted tab at the front of the mount that allows one to shove the pistol forward to rack if needed but, it’s not required to do so to release it.

Looks like an excellent product and one I would consider purchasing. The price point is good and discount if you purchase 2. Also free shipping. :+1::+1:

So many things bother me about this magnet or any other used in a car
1-It leaves you repeatedly holstering and unholstering your fire arm
2- it leaves the trigger guard unprotected with a loaded round or you carry it un chambered an then it leaves you to rack a round wile sitting in a very confined space
3- no matter how strong they say it is in a auto accident or deployment of airbags that gun will come off that magnet

1 - if you will re-read my post - I will use it on long drives where my AIWB would become uncomfortable. No repeated holstering.
2 - the unprotected trigger guard is no more dangerous there than it would be sitting on a bench. It is within only MY reach. Should I choose to carry with empty chamber, magnet has a provision for single-handed racking.
3 - there is no airbag near my right knee. If I’m involved in an accident that will dislodge it, I’ve got bigger problems than a pistol hitting me in the ankle.

It works for me! :+1:

Unprotected trigger guard and you’re in an auto accident multiple things to hit that trigger it ain’t about it hit you in the ankle then you have a negligent discharge on top of an auto accident there’s a reason good holsters cover the entire trigger guard

There are nubs on the bottom of the holder perhaps they push against the slide. Don’t see any video where they just pull it off also wonder if it could be short stroked, perhaps some practice? However looks good, holds firearm.

I found one of their videos that shows just removal without racking.
