Porch pirate defense

Just like you’re always trying to tell people what they cannot or shouldn’t do. It gets tiresome.

This place needs someone who will dig up the actual law then uses the law to show/prove their position instead of relying on “opinion”. I realize this can hurt feelings .

Ps
I won’t be offended if you don’t like me.

Also I can be rather blunt. I won’t use a whole bunch of words in an attempt to be eloquent or sound, smart.

I love where I live…lmao.I called the sheriffs dept and asked…I quote," I hope some dumbass stealing something on camera tries to press charges for that."

If you seriously injured, kill someone, it will not matter what the sheriff’s opinion is.

Does stealing a package, justify the use of force that could cause great bodily harm or death?

Are you cool with injuring an innocent, third-party? The neighbors cat or dog came on your deck, maybe the neighbors kids are playing and their ball ended up on your porch and they came to retrieve it, another delivery service shows up and leaves a package on your porch, stacking it or disturbing your booby trap and it goes off . and got injured. I don’t think the sheriff is gonna be so nonchalant about it.

in some states somebody can be emptying out your garage and you don’t get to do anything but watch them and call 911.

Why use traps, just be open, proud and loud!

I’ve been in this fence a few times…I’m still alive so are the crap load of animals it kept in. If you were an eighty year old criminal with a pace maker it might be bad… I live in the country…every kid around here has been shocked by an electric fence…no fatalities I’ve ever heard of

I too Live in a very rural area, the horse people use electric fencing . I have some friends that carry a small electric fencer. They put up around their campsites in the backcountry as a deterrent to the grizzlies.
I tend to avoid touching them.

anything that releases over 100 milliamps has the potential to cause muscle spasms and possibly cardiac arrest or cardiac fibrillation in people who have pre-existing conditions or pacemakers.

Most fencers use 120 mA.
Most of them send the energy out in pulses, and most people do have the ability to let go. A toddler or a person with other challenges may not have that ability, and it could be dangerous to them. Sure its not going kill everyone that comes in contact with it , it still can cause burns and damage to muscles.

While it’s rare for a fencer to kill someone, it isn’t an impossibility.

all of this is moot? If it’s already against the law to booby trap them.?

Scenario, they fell off your porch backwards from your non-lethal booby trap and hit their head on the sidewalk and died, now their family is coming after you in court.
Even if the sheriff chose to turn his back on it,
Or the DA failed to file charges .
the civil case could bankrupt you.

But I thought this was a place where sane people gave, sane advice.

I’m not dissing your advice at all…matter of fact I welcome it.After thinking about it I probably won’t do it…that being said I’ve even witnessed a person pee on one and live…he definitely didn’t enjoy it though.

Same here. Chinese fire drill and he got left behind. Decided he’d just run fields back to town and leave us wondering what happened to him. Unbeknownst to him a farmer had turned his cattle out into a unplowed corn field to graze on sileage…

Eventually found him by spotlight doubled over, and he could barely catch a breath!

I actually spit on one at 3-4 yo. You know how you hear about that white light when you check outta here?

Hey, I get it, I was younger I thought playing around with stuff like fencers, large capacitors was a lot of fun.
Rural kids can find a lot of places to hook fencers up to. we also were setting up a guy to piss on a fence too. I just couldn’t watch.
Kids…

I’m still getting mail from victims impact panel when we had mailbox thief that came through is being charged with the theft and I guess they got them on drug charge also.
So I understand the frustrations.

But let’s remember, even if you’re intent wasn’t the cause harm, but it did, you will probably be on the hook for it. A lot of manslaughter charges don’t need intent, just your actions.

Is setting up a booby trapped package a defensive posture, or an aggressive posture?

Initially it was wasn’t defensive or aggressive really. Comical is what I was thinking, watching them jump two feet when they touched it. If I were to be aggressive about it there would be no trap…just me with a weapon.

the 1st boy touched the wire and told the others that it wasn’t on. but, what they didn’t know that I was home and happen see what they were doing. for some reason the switch mysteriously turned the fence on.  :+1: :joy:
