Polymer 80 serialization before sale

I built my p80 years ago and its more or less lived in a safe after my first couple range trips and then getting bored with it. I want to sell it for new gun parts but not sure if it needs to be serialized before a private sale. If so could I stamp it myself before sale and record it in the bill of sale? I am a VA resident with my ccw permit and the potential buyer is a VA ccw permit holder.

Hearing these new bills that are being passed including so-called ghost gun/parts must be serialized but no instruction of how to go about it, maybe it’s best to contact ATF for that information. If replacing an original part that has a serial number and replacing it with a 3d printed part, stamp the original serial number on the new part maybe?

The USCCA should put out information to its members answering this exact question.

According to the ATF and current Virginia law, you are not required to put a serial number on a firearm that was manufactured for personal use. This is a topic that has been discussed numerous times in this forum.

Here is a link from one of my posts that has links to the ATF explaining this.

Even if later down the road you want to sell it? I understand The built for personal use. I am trying to gain clarity on if i sell p2p i am not in any violation.

The ATF site makes clear there is no federal issue. Currently, Virginia also does not have a requirement for a s/n, but there are at least a couple of states that do. Please go to Lobby Day this year, if you don’t already have plans to do so. Lobby Day is Monday, January 19 at the Richmond Capitol. The VCDL site has the information on Lobby Day. The Ds will be in control of both houses and the Governship. Under Northam they went hard after legal firearm ownership. The VCDL fought hard, but did lose some battles - in bad laws being passed, and in the courts.

If you are not a member of the VCDL, I strongly encourage that you do join.

Youngkins vetoed about 30 gun “control” bills..The Dems will be back with them and more, and with Spam burger being an Everytown shill, I may not go over the mountain ever again. Just read her thoughts on reciprocity, and have no desire to go where I’m not wanted.

Yea i just came across her “common sense” firearm propositions, smh. I moved to VA because of the pro 2a laws what a shame. Guess gonna have to stock up while you can.

I looked into VA, but NoVa concerned us. Wife and I still real happy with choosing WV. Saw Spanberger wanting to tighten up permit process and require similar process from reciprocity states. I’m done with that.

Nova sucks! We live in ashburn and the people are what you would expect. Schools are also super liberal as seen on the news.

My vpn puts me in Ashburn on occasion. That’s close enough for me :winking_face_with_tongue:. I see more cattle than deer, more deer than people these days, and appreciate the ability to have that life.
