This has exactly nothing to do with better access to anything, it has everything to do with one thing, FREE FEDERAL DOLLARS many of which will land in the pockets of the very politicians that stand there smiling for a photo opp.
There is an art to designing highways that just making more lanes may be some help but it is the choke points that have the hard effect of highway traffic. Seattle has a choke point when going through the city. It is not going to help to build wider roads around this choke point. You need to get rid of that choke point. Then going from Washington state or going to Washington state from Portland has a choke point. For some reason the Interstate 5 you have to go on an exit to stay on the Interstate 5. It is always bogged up. These roads need to flow clear from off and on ramps and create a smooth flow. In Los Angelas it is a good example of this. In the middle of the day a normal half hour drive takes three hours. I have seen the best going from LA to San Diego. A guy was on the side of the freeway on the back of his truck with a telescope looking towards the ocean. Traffic was backed up for miles then when you passed the guy on the truck the traffic cleared up. I know everybody was trying to see what he was looking at but could not see anything. It was a telescope! This was traffic you cannot fix, where onlookers and the curious slow the traffic down.
I had a female go the wrong way at the grocery store and she was yelling at me like it was my fault I was in her way. She was in an accident in the roundabout shortly thereafter. All I could think is karma is a bitch too!
