I really wanted a Beretta mag version, but seeing how it can’t fold with an optic on it…I gave up years ago.

5.7 appears to be gaining traction. In recent times, saw it first with the Ruger brand.

I looked at 5.7x28 pretty hard. I thought it might work for my wife. It came down to ammo availability, cost and sound. In a pistol those little sucker are loud. Carbine is a little better but neither can be suppressed. I also looked at the CMR 30 22 magnum. Again while cheaper than 5.7 it still can’t be suppressed. 9mm is easily suppressed, very available and relatively inexpensive. I won’t say cheap.
I have a Sub2k in 9mm. It is a great lightweight carbine. A muzzle brake would tame the recoil as does a suppressor but the LOP is too long for my wife. She is stuck with 22lr which isn’t a bad thing. Very versatile. Easily suppressed. A lot of poaching was done with 22lr which was why suppressors were put in the NFA.

uuuuh. what? they make cans rated for 5.7 and 22 winmag allday errday. not sure who told you that they cant be suppressed?

Yes they make cans but you can’t suppress a sonic crack. They do make subsonic rounds but then you have the same power as a 22lr. You can get a 60 grain subsonic 22 rimfire. It is in a 22 short case and requires a 1:9 twist to stabilize. Might work in a 22 lr conversion for an AR. A 147 grain 9mm suppresses very well. So does 22lr for a lot less money.

subs, sure, but if thats your use argument no one should ever buy anything but 230 grain ball 45acp, since you’re gimping the velocity side of the energy equation, the only way to get energy back is mass. you would be surprised how much the can knocks the sound down, even with supers on most rifle rounds
